S9 Autoset and Easyfit Full-face

Post by ktsdad » Sun Apr 04, 2010 2:45 pm

Long-time Lurker, but I had to post on my new S9 and Easyfit Full-face. I have tried several nasals and pillows, my two favorite being the Opus 360 and the Zest Nasal. My machine was a REMStar Pro M Series. I recently switched insurance and was able to get a new script for a S9 Autoset. It is wonderfu.! The noise is about 1/2 that of the REMStar and I get no noise from the tube, which was a big problem with me. I typically used the old machine 3 to 4 hours about every third night. My new S9 is 3 days old and has 19 hours of use!

Everybit as fabulous as the machine is my new mask. After researching this forum I demanded an Easyfit full-face. I went full-face due to the fact I was getting lip flutter and have allergies which sometime give me a stuffy nose. The Easyfit now made by Devibliss. Some don't like it, but the medium fit me with no leaks up to a pressure of 20 or so. My range is 6 to 14 (9 to 10 if not autoset). The mask is nearly silent and the swivel allows me to sleep on my side with how it can swivel out as well as around. I ordered the climateline, but it is not in yet.

Two down sides to the mask. 1. The swivel sometimes leaks at lower pressures. Repositioning the hose fixes this. The leak is caused by the hose kind of 'prying' the swivel as if you wanted to pry it out. At higher pressures (10 and above), it seems the problem resolves itself. 2. The Wienmann headgear needed getting used to, but the more I use it, the more I like it. These two minor points are very minor to me considering the benefits of the noise reduction and the diffused exhaltion venting.

I will be switching jobs in 6 weeks and hope to keep my machine. I may have to try and buy the S9 outright if my new insurance won't switch. I also want to try to get the Easyfit Nasal when possible.

Thanks to everyone on here for their tips and advice. It really helped me to be proactive and take control of my therapy.

One last note is I do not have the rescan3.1 software. Any PM's on help would be appreciated.

welcome
it helps to clamp the airhose to the bedhead so the weight of the hose doesnt tug on the mask, also this stops you pulling CPAP off its stand if you move a lot in sleep
all mask headgear elastic stretches at first and so needs adjusting
australian, anxiety and insomnia, a CPAP user since 1995, self diagnosed after years of fatigue, 2 cheap CPAPs and respironics comfortgell nose only mask. not one of my many doctors ever asked me if I snored

I'm glad you're finding the S9 just as good as the rest of us. It really is a great machine.

Got the PM, Thanks.

I also want to emphasize how much I like the easyfit. I have tried about 8 different masks in the past couple of years and this is the first one that doesn't wake me up with noise (except when leaking). One note, at least for my DME, Devilbiss does not offer the 30 day trial like some other companies.

Also already using the clip and it works beautifully.

That's great news about the mask. I've never tried DeVilbiss masks before, I've only tried ResMed and Respironics. It's a bit of a personal thing because everyone's head and face is shaped differently and everyone sleeps differently. I started off with a full face ResMed mask and I loved it, the two downers for me was the leak rate (highly susceptible to leaks when you moved) and that my throat was getting dry. I had a heated humidifier but didn't use it much because I was getting too much rainout and at that point didn't know how to combat it. If I had, I would have used my humidifier more and probably wouldn't have moved to a nasal mask.

Lately I've been using nasal pillows, I still like my Activa and gravitate back to that from the pillows once in a while. I've never had a problem like some where they don't like wearing a mask, for me it almost seems as natural as sleeping

Thanks
Dave
