Beds

Post by Country4ever » Sat Apr 03, 2010 8:59 am

I have fibromyalgia and sleeping in a bed seems to cause me to wake up with alot of pain and stiffness.
So I've been sleeping on a big comfy couch in our bedroom for many years. I have the seat cushioned with a feather bed. I find it extremely comfortable.
Is it possible that even though I find it very comfortable, it affects my sleep in a negative way? Seems like as long as its comfy, it should be okay.
I'm a side-sleeper, so it works out good.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Did you look at the data on the LCD screen of that machine?

I don't have that one but I understand the display gives quite bit of data. I am assuming you don't have software and a reader, even though it appears you have an auto machine.

You should be able to see the AHI and the leak rate on the LCD screen of that machine and know something of how your therapy is going.

I can't see that your sleeping setup should affect your therapy.

At least this bumps your post up for someone with your machine to comment.

vantage doesn't provide AHI or leak rate just how many hours it is been used. I think if you can sleep on the couch and you feel good on it that is better than trying sleep on a bed that makes you ache.
Some people sleep in recliners.

I also have fibromyalgia and find sleeping on a couch more comfortable than sleeping in a bed. I didn't know that others were also more comfortable sleeping on a couch.

Everyone is different but I find that I have better AHI results when using two pillows and having my upper torso raised a bit. I think gravity doesn't affect the flappy flesh as much in that position.

bearded_two.......Its nice to find out I'm not the only one! I can't seem to figure out why its so much more comfortable, but maybe it keeps us from getting into too many bad positions! I like using 2 pillows on top of the arm rest too. Really raises my torso up and helps me breath better. Once I figured out how to keep the couch cushions from separating, and then padding the couch with a feather bed, its just perfect!
My ResMed Auto Vantage does have useful into........Pressure, leak rate, AI, HI, AHI, hours used for the day, week, month, 6 months. That's how I know I'm not doing so good.
I wonder if its the softness of a couch too. I feel sort of weird sleeping on a couch for so many years.......but at least there was an alternative to the bed.
Granted our bed is fairly firm, but I put 2 egg crates on it, and I still woke up horribly stiff. I think it will be a couch for me forever!
