Women on CPAP

Post by 230jhp » Sat Apr 03, 2010 5:23 am

This may be a little off topic, but I am surpirsed to see so many women on this site. I was under the misconception that sleep apnea was a malady that primarily occured in men.

Unfortunately many doctors have believed this. I think the day will come soon when they find just about as many women as men have some dangerous form of sleep-disordered breathing.

Just start looking at the jaw structure of women. You see a lot of poorly developed jaws. Also, obesity seems to be a big problem for women just as it is for men.

So far it has often been the case that when women complain of being fatigued and depressed, doctors give them SSRIs without first checking them for sleep-disordered breathing.

If you are going to do this, I would strongly recommend being very discreet about it.

Lifelong ogler of women. Retraining/rehabilitation nigh impossible.

And then there is menopause. Once we hit that our chances are up there with the men. And of course pregnancy - which has natural muscle relaxants plus a large object kicking the diaphram.
