Broke a blood vessel

Post by slibhart » Mon Mar 29, 2010 5:27 pm

This morning I woke up with a broken blood vessel in my eye. I don't know if I did it from coughing, sneezing, or if my mask was too tight. Has anyone else ever broken a blood vessel as a result of their mask?

A few people on this forum have mentioned that they actually get "air leaks" up through their nose, into their tear ducts, and into their eyes. Tears flow into the ducts when you cry -- that's why your nose runs. ... So, it makes sense that the reverse can happen.

So, maybe that's what's going on with you. Maybe you can search the forum for "tear ducts", and read some posts on the subject. Or someone can chime in and point you in the right direction.

Good luck.

During my apnea but pre-diagnosis phase, I rubbed my itchy allergy eyes and caused broken vesseals in one...wasn't even that hard! Bright red in the outer half of te entire eyeball -- scared the heck outta me! Doc told me to increase vit C and no more rubbing eyes. Looked hideous for at least a wk; I hid behind sunglasses.

I had one a few months ago. I also realized my eyes were very dry, so started using eye drops. A friend told me he used to get them alot, until he started moisturizing his eyes. I don't know if the two things are really connected, but I haven't had any problems since.

I think being in AZ, and the air from the cpap was drying my eyes. I use Refresh Liquigel Lubricant Eye Drops at night, and Systane Ultra Lubricant Eye Drops in the morning, and during the day, if needed.

Thanks for the input folks! I will try the eye drops and see if that helps. It is allergy season and I have had lots of itching.
