Because she's positioning herself as the spokesperson against Health Reform in the US. Did you not hear her "reload" comment yesterday?

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula. :)

Not to mention that - while I don't give a crap one way or the other - this is pretty obvious political rhetoric.

The title of the thread couldn't be more out of context if it had to be except to actually change the name of the person or country.

I would take things like this far more seriously if the original poster dealt in facts and tried to have a normal conversation.

By the way, here's the actual relevant text from the article
My first five years of life we spent in Skagway, Alaska, right there by Whitehorse,” .... “Believe it or not — this was in the ‘60s — we used to hustle on over the border for health care that we would receive in Whitehorse. I remember my brother, he burned his ankle in some little kid accident thing and my parents had to put him on a train and rush him over to Whitehorse and I think, isn’t that kind of ironic now. Zooming over the border, getting health care from Canada."
It really is a shame that some people simply aren't able to state a fact and say "This seems wrong" instead of pulling things out of context which only makes themselves look foolish.

@Slinky

Hmmmmm....well, you clicked into this topic with its clearly labelled subject.

So, if you're looking for a list, it would logically start with "you"!

BTW, that was "in the 60s". Canada didn't socialize its healthcare intil 1984. It was clearly a matter of geography and expediency.

(1984...that would make a great book title, no?)

Ah, Rooster. Its not my fault the smiley didn't show up in my post. She's a ditz. I don't pay any attention to anything that flake has to say. I will NEVER understand how John McCain came up w/HER as VP running mate. I always liked McCain even when I didn't agree with him. *sigh* That choice cost him a lot of my respect sad to say.

I suppose she could have gone to Russia instead, since she can see it from her back porch.

Now that made the thread worthwhile!

Seriously, though, I can't imagine why anyone, regardless of their opinions about Ms. Palin or the best method of healthcare finance, found any significance in this tale from her youth. It was neither ironic, as she claimed, nor hypocritical, as some of her critics said. She was five years old.

There were other stories circulating during the healthcare reform debate, now blessedly behind us, of how some Canadian provinces contract to have certain procedures performed at U.S. medical centers. This never struck me as a valid criticism of Canadian healthcare. One of the strongest beliefs I have as a result of practicing medical malpractice law is that the best results for many complicated procedures are achieved where doctors and hospitals see a high volume of patients. For example, there is no such thing as an outstanding, small heart-transplant program. Especially in areas with low population densities, it makes sense to send patients somewhere with adequate volumes to sustain quality, and rational to ignore political boundaries when looking for the best combination of cost, quality, and location. Several western states in the U.S. use the University of Washington and its affiliated hospitals in a similar way.

I doubt that Sarah Palin is getting health care in Canada anymore. In Ontario, at least, you need to have a valid Ontario health card to present everytime you go for some medical service or appointment.

It may not be that way in other provinces but I expect it probably is.

The idea of Canadians paying for Sarah Palin's (or any rich American's) health care aggrevates me! I have no problem if they are poor and (up until now) they couldn't get health care in the US.
