Sore nose with nasal mask

Post by Luc » Wed Mar 24, 2010 7:54 am

Good morning all,

I am in the process of developping a permanent wound just at the top of my nose between my eyes. I use an Activa LT nasal mask. I have tried a silicone comfort pad but it was so big ...it went into my eyes. So I trimmed it down but it is so thick it caused a lot of leakage. So I am resorting to applying a bandaid every night to protect that part of my nose. But the wound is persisting.
It's weird. When I put the mask on in front of the mirror, I can't see where it comes in contact with the sore area. It could be the sore is happening because of mask movement (friction caused by EPR setting). Has anyone tried lowering or turning EPR off to reduce the mask flexing and did this help any sore noses out there?

Thanks to all that reply.

Three things come to mind about masks:

Leaks... I assume you have none... perhaps loosening will give you comfort w/o leaks or at least significant leaks.
Sizing... if it is meeting your nose in the wrong place... perhaps the next size is more correct.
Fitting... sounds like you do this, but taking pressure off the bridge of the nose can be accommodated by raising the forehead pad just enough.

Then you arrive at replacing it with a more comfortable mask... perhaps pillows are for you.

Three things that worked for me:

1. Turn of EPR, A-flex, C-Flex. THe jumping up and down of the mask causes ugly blisters on sensitive skin.

2. Use a nose protector, like this one http://padacheek.com/PAC_Nosebridge.html

3. Trim the silicone where it is cutting into your nose. It doesn't take much to make it fit more comfortably. I have to trim the soft silicone on the top and the firm silicone on the bottom edge.

I do all three, but one of those suggestions might work for you.
