Re: Aussie Hose - Finally Arrived
One further improvement I've added to the Aussie hose is a timer.............so it goes off and on by itself at about the times I hit regularly hit the sack.
I used a timer that I had bought originally for the aquarium, so I'd have one set of times for weekdays, and another for weekends, plus it can be easily overridden.
The hose has made a huge difference in my treatment....I want to protect the investment....and right off the bat, left it plugged in all day one day.

Dear pdean44,
Let me know how you like your new Aussie. I got one, but it ran too hot for me. I am keeping it for the summer time, though, when my husband cranks up the a/c!
Warmly,
Jersey Girl

Re: Aussie Hose - Finally Arrived
I'd be very interested to know what you think of the Aussie heated hose, pdean44, especially since we use the same humidifier.
I just started using one a few weeks ago and I have mixed feelings about it. I'm still experimenting, but it hasn't allowed me to turn my humidifier up quite as much as I thought I'd be able to. I've been able to go from a setting of 1.5 (with a thick knitted hose cover) to 2.5 (with the Aussie heated hose) without getting rainout. For some reason, the extra heat made me sweat a lot the first night , but I took a layer of bedcovers off and I've been fine since. The air blowing out the mask exhaust vent is warmer, which feels better when I wear a mask that blows on my arm.
I wish that the hose had a variable temperature control. I think that would help a lot. Because I can't turn the humidifier up much above 2.5 without getting mask rainout, it sometimes makes my throat a bit drier than I'd like.
Like scrapper, I use a timer with mine. I purchased a Utilitech Digital 2-Outlet Timer (#0155671) at Lowe's for about $15. It can be set to go on and off at set times, but since my bedtime can be quite irregular I just activate the timer manually (two button presses) when I go to bed and have it set to turn off in 9 hours from that time. I have the Aussie hose plugged into one outlet on the timer, and I have a small, flat night light plugged into the other timer outlet. That way I can see visually that the hose is turned off in the morning. If I get up before 9 hours (which I usually do), I just turn the timer off manually.
Anyway....I hope you'll let us know how it works for you.

Re: Aussie Hose - Finally Arrived
Still don't have a timer ...need to get one. One thing I don't like is no temp control It needs to be cool on the room. Also I miss using my snuggly hose cover. It says in instructions not to use one not sure why. Also you can't put under the cover.

Re: Aussie Hose - Finally Arrived
Go to radio shack and buy a 9 volt dc power supply of about 0.8 amps capacity. Use it instead of the 12 volt power supply that came with the aussie hose. At 9 volts, the hose will combat rain out quite effectively, but it's not so hot as to warm the air to uncomfortable levels. Work's like a charm and will NOT damage your aussie hose.Jersey Girl wrote:Dear pdean44,

Before buying a 9 volt power supply, look through the junk drawer in your home (you do have one, don't you? ) You may find you already have one that used to power your old telephone answering machine, cordless phone, or whatever. These power supplies are VERY common.
I'm workin' on it.
Re: Aussie Hose - Finally Arrived
Thanks a lot Hose_Head, I have my aussi in the closet. I used it once and I found the air was too hot, you know we are used to the fresh air of the North.
I will try to find the transformer who is hiden in my drawer, hope I will find it

Re: Aussie Hose - Finally Arrived
I love mine and plug it in about 1/2 hr before bed-i have my room at 56-60 degrees and it is not to hot in the hose--humidifier set at 2 and about 1/5 water left in am-- when i first got it i had wrong plug --bought it at ace hardware--then i went to radio shack and got right one-what a difference--no more runny nose --very worth the money-- time is a definite to do next

I probably have one some where. How long have you been running it like that under voltage?Hose_Head wrote:Go to radio shack and buy a 9 volt dc power supply of about 0.8 amps capacity. Currently with out the aussie i cant turn my machine up any higher than 1.5 without getting rain out. I did not know you couldnt put it under your covers? I saw it for 10 minutes before i bolted off to work for the evening. I did not get much time to read the instructions. I work a firemans schedule so my sleep times vary.

You can try running it on a power supply with lower voltage -- e.g. 9 instead of 12 -- that will keep at a lower temp.Jersey Girl wrote:Dear pdean44,

I wonder why they never thought to have thermostatic control on the hose?

Re: Aussie Hose - Finally Arrived
I've only had my aussie hose for a couple of months. I used it just one night at 12 volts, then changed to 9 volts. I got this tip from others on this board. I suspect that there are many others who have use it this way for some time.pdean44 wrote: How long have you been running it like that under voltage?

Re: Aussie Hose - Finally Arrived
Maybe someone here can help me....
As I mentioned earlier, I was able to turn my ResMed humidifier up to 1.5 with a thickly knitted hose cover only. That didn't feel like enough humidity, so I bought the Aussie heated hose, hoping I could raise it. I'm using the 12-volt power supply that it came with, and I'm only able to turn the humidifier up to 2.5 max without getting rainout. In fact, last night I had it at 2.5 and had water in my nasal pillows this morning. The end of the Aussie hose felt wet inside too, so I don't think it's just mask rainout.
So, if I get the 9-volt power supply, won't I most likely be back to square one, at a maximum humidity level about the same as pre-heated hose? It seems like the heated hose hasn't made much difference for me. How much are you able to raise your ResMed humidifier setting using the Aussie hose without getting rainout, especially those of you using 9-volt power?
Temperature here has been warm and dry lately, about 75-85 °F outside during the day (around 70 °F inside), and about 65 °F inside at night. We don't heat/cool our house, and indoor humidity is around 50%. I can't figure out why I can't turn the humidifier up higher, especially with the heated hose. The humidifier air is warm, so the hose is working fine. I feel like I need moister air than I'm getting, especially with the air blowing warmer.
Any thoughts? Pdean44, how's it working for you?

Re: Aussie Hose - Finally Arrived
Today was my 1st experience with the aussie. I have a head cold so it was a difficult one. I used the 12 volt brick since i did not have time to look for the 9 volt brick i may have around the house. I had the humidity set for 2.5 but with the head cold still could not breathe well. woke up several times feeling like i was not getting enough air. I turned up the humidity to 3.5 or so and experienced some rain out not as bad as i was getting on lower setting without the heater. I cleared the mask and slept on my side a bit. that seemed to help the rain out some. A head cold and cpap is not a fun combo. I have to try and do something more to keep my air passages clear. I tried the neti pot before i went to bed. That did not seem to make a difference. We have forced air gas heating in my house so it gets dry during the winter season. Overall not counting the multiple times i woke up i slept from 6:30 am till 3:30 pm. Something i can not do when i was not on the machine. Though I would have liked to have slept straight through , I will take what i can get as i progress. Also I remembered my first dream today something I have not done in years. It wasnt a good one so next time hopefully it will be on a happier note. lol Subconsiously must be worried about my kids.
Dreamon I hope you find a solution to your problem. I knwo i get more humidity with the hose than without it.
