Any Danger

Post by Sleepin'jax » Sat Mar 20, 2010 6:18 pm

I am wondering......My brother-in-law is an obvious sleep apnea sufferer. He is self-employed and the current economic situation prohibits him from taking a sleep study.
I have an extra machine that is apap, c-flex.
I have given him the machine to try, with in-depth instructions.
Are there any real dangers to him trying this to see if it helps?
I can't think of any....
TIA!

Just pay attention to the data to be sure you aren't causing pressure-induced centrals.

Als, make sure you start with a reasonable pressure range. For a first try, 6-12 would be a good possibility. If 6 proves to be create that 'feeling of suffocation', try 7-12 ot 8-12. I wouldn't go beyond 12 on the high end until you see data that suggests you need to go higher. Other than that, the usual things about mask fit and mouth breathing.

Between the danger of not treating the sleep apnea and treating the sleep apnea, I would also choose trying to help. Great suggestions here to try to go about it cautiously and MONITOR the progress.

And let me add one thing ... Thank you for being a good enough person, who cares about others and wants to make a difference! THANK YOU!

LOL! Thanks for the kind comments. They were unexpected.

Also thanks for the advise.
Will monitor and help him adjust. last night was planned on being the first....am waiting to hear results.
Thanks again, and will advise as we go along.
Steve.
