I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea a couple weeks ago. After a follow up CPAP night, I went from 39 AHI to 0. I went in recently to talk to the tech at my sleep center, they pretty much said I could pick the machine I wanted. He did mention that autos are for people with higher pressures. My pressure was set at 8. But he said I could still get an auto if I wanted.
Should I go for the S9 Elite, S9 Auto, or a Respironics model? I could not find the software for the resmed machines. Where do I get that and how much? Which Respironics model should I consider?
Also, I will probably need to wait a few months for the S9. Is it worth the wait? Or should I just get one that is available now? Like the S8 Elite II, or Autoset II?
Which machine should I get?
Re: Which machine should I get?
are you getting the machine from the sleep center or from another outfit?

Re: Which machine should I get?
You want to make sure that you get a machine that gives you data. The S9's are ResMeds newest machines and there are several threads about these. I have a ResMed Autoset II and really like it. I like the autos as they can be set to straight cpap or auto. I don't know anything about the Respironics models but I'm sure someone will come along and tell you about these machine. It's good that your DME will get you what you want, but autos are not only for people with higher pressures. Good luck.

Re: Which machine should I get?
The sleep center has a DME that my insurance supports that allows the sleep center to work directly with the patients. So I will never really come into contact with the actual DME.jules wrote:are you getting the machine from the sleep center or from another outfit?

I just wouldn't want the tech to say one thing and you end up at another place and they say your insurance won't allow this machine you want -
Re: Which machine should I get?
S9 Auto can be configured as an S9 Elite if that is what you want. If they are offering the S9 Auto I'd grab it.

Re: Which machine should I get?
How about the software? Do I need it with the S9? Will it display the AHI from the screen?
Re: Which machine should I get?
By default it will display the AHI only, so it won't display HI or CI but you can with the press of a couple of buttons get access to these on the display of the machine if you want. You don't really need the software unless you really want to examine how each night goes and understand better how you breath and how your apnoeas occur. Some of us prefer to have the software if we can but many don't have software and use the display on the machine to see how good or bad the night was.JMJflyer wrote:How about the software?
