Re: Share your OSA story with nurse researchers
I am sure I'm the culprit with the slow responses to the wrist thing. I wish I could participate more on this board in general. I always enjoyed sharing my experience and learning from the others. the study is a huge way for me to give back and try and make things better for all of us. I probably won't be on this forum much for while until my wrist heals. I hope others who want to participate will still feel free to contact me or especially Connee who can provide a faster reply. I we'll get back to everyone as quickly as I can and I am grateful for your patience.

Hi,
I think I have responded to everyone who is interested in participating in the OSA study thus far. If I have missed you, I am new to this forum and attempting to learn the "ropes". Please contact me at clsloma@ilstu.edu for additional questions or to receive the information. Thanks in advance for your patience We still need a few more individuals to participate. Thanks..........Connee

cpaptalk doesn't recognize me tonight and I'm too lazy to back out and sign in. Slinky
First off the URL for the Informed Consent document comes up w/an error message. Then when you figure out how to get to the Informed Consent you get a repeated message from Beth - and a pop up that says
This website wants to run the following ... k here ...
cpaptalk's software insisted I remove the add-on identification It was 'i e t a g dot d l l'
I've lost all interest!!!!!

Re: Share your OSA story with nurse researchers
To get to this Informed Consent, I had to go to Connee's Initial Questionaire and use the link from it. And you can't just click on the link you must use Ctrl + click on the link and THAT is what takes you to the Informed Consent page w/the nasty little pop up.

That's okay, Connee. It took me awhile to find my way around this site, too. This is my first experience with an on line forum. I sure am glad I found it.ConneeRNResearcher wrote:Sorry Bev, missed the private message. I have a bit of a learning curve to overcome with the website. Thanks for your patience.

I received your questionnaire, filled it out and sent it back to you.

Re: Share your OSA story with nurse researchers
I am happy to participate in this study and had no problem filling in the initial questionnaire. I would love to see the study outcome report and hope that it will foster better care for OSA patients. In my case, I would have very little support if not for the members of this forum.

cpaptalk forum,
The information everyone has shared is wonderful. There are certainly some interesting stories. Both Beth and I are humbled by your generous sharing. Thank you for completing the questionnaires, we know it took valuable time to finish. We feel privileged to be given this information. We still need 5 to 10 more participants if anyone is interested in participating. As Beth said earlier we are incredibly grateful for your willingness to share your OSA stories. The research project should be complete by the end of the summer and we look forward to sharing our results with you.
Again thank you,
Connee Sloman RN MSN CRNA

Yes John, their study is probably skewed to the healthiest. The rest of us are too exhausted to reply.

public policy issues with OSA / CPAP
Help,
You all have previously been very helpful to me in sharing your stories. Now I have another situation I need some help with. I am a PhD Nursing student from Illinois State University and have a question. As I understand, most CPAP machines are equiped with compliance monitors. Many insurance companies want to know the compliance data in order to pay the initial rental or purchase fees.
Are there any regulations regarding this? I suspect insurance companies set the standard. If this is so...........What is the standard. If an individual only uses his/her CPAP for 3 hours per night does that meet the criteria? Will insurance companies pay. I realize there are many variables but could someone advise me where to look for additional information.
I am thinking about public policy issues with individuals diagnosed with OSA and CPAP. Thanks in advance for your assistance! I will anxiously wait to hear your thoughts. I know there are experts out there.

Re: Share your OSA story with nurse researchers
4 hrs a might every night is the insurance co standard for compliance and as we hoseheads all know 4 hrs a night means hrs of untreated apnea. The 4 hrs of treatment likely doesn't offset the damage occurring during the untreated hrs...idiotic concept IMHO.
