Card and Software - Why Should I Care?

Post by Jere » Fri Oct 14, 2005 10:00 pm

My ResMed Escape 8 comes with a card, but (of course ) no reader or software. Assuming I could scrape up the reader and the software - what would it show and why should I care?

I hate to own a gadget and not use all its features, but don't want to invest in the stuff (if indeed it is available) if it wont tell me something I need to know.

I am sure this question (or variants of the same) has been posted, but I couldn't find anything on my machine. Thanks for your patience!

Jere,

I don't own a ResMed machine, but here is the link to the software information on that machine. Looks like it's similar to the Respironics Encore Pro software in what information it gives. I know I'd be clueless without something to tell me what my progress has been. I had decided before I got my machine that I wanted to be in charge of my therapy and am very happy that I am able to have the software and machine capabilities that allow me to do that.

Best wishes,

I don't own a Resmed machine. I know that the following is true for both Respironic machines and Puritan Bennett machines: Some machines are capable of collecting more data than others.

Reading carefully what cpap.com say about the data collected "Data Storage, Used hours and usage days available from flow generator. Usage days for the 180 most recent sessions available locally and remotely via PC application."; and comparing what Resmed say about the S8 Elite, and do not say about the s8 Escape - I would say it won't tell you anything you don't know....

Okij - Thanks for the link. Looks like that info available fromthe Escape 8 is relatively basic and of little value: hours of use and such, but no detailed info on the number of apnea events.

I already know how to 'hack' into clinician mode and get all of that info off the display. So I think I'll save my money for something more fun - like another mask or a heated hose

The S8 Escape will give you only very basic information even with the software, basically compliance data. The S8 Elite provides all the additional information including apnea index, leaks, etc. that I assume most people are looking for when buying software.
