Health Update

Post by SnoozyWoozyCat » Sun Feb 28, 2010 5:49 pm

Just a quick update. I had another bone marrow biopsy last Friday and it is clear so I am in partial remission! I have been home for almost 2 weeks -- Wow it's good to be home after 5 weeks in the hospital. I had a seriously ill cat (kidney disease) and wonderful friends and family basically kept her going for those 5 weeks with meds and sub-q fluids so I could come back to her and spend some time. Sadly, the poor little baby had to be euthanized yesterday. She waited for her mama to get home and we had some really good days together the first week I came home, but she was tired and just couldn't rally one more time. The last 4 days, she went rapidly downhill. That was the last thing weighing heavily on my mind and I'm so thankful I could be there for her in the end.

I go back tomorrow to the hospital for the next round of chemo -- 7 days, 24 hours a day. I will be in the hospital 1 to 4 weeks, depending on how I tolerate this next round of chemo. Send good thoughts that this one will go normally! I feel so much stronger and am getting around on flat surfaces without a cane. The doctors are pleased with my blood counts and are amazed at my quick recovery from the coma. I still am having problems climbing stairs due to the steroids I was on, but my thigh muscles are getting stronger. I have learned I am much emotionally stronger than I thought. I'll keep you updated. And thanks again for the kind words and prayers.

Dear Snoozywoozycat,

So glad to hear that you came home from the hospital in partial remission.

So sorry to hear about your kitty. Once you have had some time, do you think you might adopt another? I had to put our dog down a couple of years ago - he was 17 and a half, and eventually, once some time had passed we got our little shitzu girl. Pets are such a blessing and they are so comforting.

May God grant you a full and complete healing.

Sincerely,

Jersey Girl

It's good to hear from you, and I'm thankful that your chemo is having good results. You have such a loving support group, to take care of you and your kitty. I'm glad you had some precious time with her. Sending healing thoughts to you, during your next phase of treatment.

It is so good to hear that things have improved, and hope this next round of chemo will be status quo. It's going to be interesting to see how you're gonna feel when the blood issues are all straightened out and your cpap is doing what it needs to do. You'll be a new woman! Do keep us posted.
Kathy
P.S. Glad you could be home with your kitty. So sorry for your loss.

So far, cross your fingers, the chemo is going well. It's almost been 24 hours, and aside from a little dizziness and vertigo, I haven't had any other problems. Keep your fingers crossed it stays that way. The dr. said my counts are great and he's pleased. I'm so relieved to get this started -- this chemo was truly the hardest thing I've had to do in my life because there was no guarantee my lungs wouldn't shut down again. I do have blood clot in my leg from when I was in the coma; it was just a superficial one on my calf, but when I came in I mentioned that my upper thigh was now hurting and they did an ultra sound and found it has either gotten bigger or it's moved up to the back of my knee which is not a good thing. Once it goes above the thigh, the whole ballgame changes because it can travel to your heart or lungs. My left leg is really swollen so that worries me. They have started me back on a powerful blood thinner that is a shot in my stomach so hopefully that helps but it can take 3 months or longer for a clot to resolve. In the old days, just the clot alone would have sent me over the edge, but after the weeks I've been through, it's all relative!

Thanks for the replies and good wishes.
