My new machine. The PR System One

Post by Bearcat42 » Wed Feb 24, 2010 6:19 pm

Well,I went to my VA appointment with my RT and told them about my machine acting up and they were more than willing to give me a new one since my old machine was still under warranty. And they came out with the PR System One. So my RT calls me back and sets me down to walk me through everything on the machine and I said, "so this is the new system one?" and she looked at me and said she had no idea and actually had never heard of the system one. Surprise, surprise.

I left the hospital with my new machine and had to go out of state to do a job and I have been using it now for 6 days. Overall I like it. It seems much more quiet than what I had and has new features such as the SD card, which now outdates my old card, reader and my version of Encore Pro. Can anyone help with that? The reader isnt a problem but the software is.

The LCD menu has more functions on the system one and I believe this model has "dry-box" technology. The RT said that the humidifier chamber cannot be filled through the top but it looks like it can be. So for those using the System One, what are your thoughts on this machine?

I like it. It's quiet. I had a PB 420 g for over 5 years. Got the PR 1 about mid January. Although I have been sick with one thing after another since then (colds and such), I am starting to feel better than I had with my old 420. I am looking forward to obtaining the encore pro 2.2 software but am scared of that torrent web site, wow!

There is much I like about the PR1. My husband agrees it's quieter. When you finally do have software you'll find the machine distinguishes RERAs and Central Apnea and the printouts are most interesting. I did brave a Torrent site and happy I did, but I also did computer clean up that may have had nothing to do with that (found out our computer hadn't been checked for some time.)

I have not been sleeping as soundly with the PR1 as I did with my M series and I'm trying to put my finger on it. It's not that I don't feel well during the day after I finally wake up, but I awaken many times during the night compared with my M-series. Allergies were triggered immediately that I wasn't experiencing before the PR1. The one thing I'm taking more care about now is that the machine is supported on a dust-free surface since the intake port is so close to the bottom. I'm also wondering if it's that the machine is manipulating me to breathe to a rhythm I wouldn't follow on my own--my normal exhale is longer than my inhale but on the machine they are the same speed. I think the PR1 at times induces you to take a breath (I know, that's part of it's job). Whatever, I hope to get used to it. I do find the current Cflex design a help to avoid aerophagia.

Most posts I've seen about the PR1 are positive other than the lack of software. I think you'll continue to be happy with it.

I think water in the humidifier is supposed to be more securely segregated from the rest of the machine. I agree with you--if I wanted to I could fill from the top.

I really like my new System One - a huge improvement over the M-Series Auto.

I've found that I need to set the A-flex to a lower setting than I did on the M-Series. On my old machine I set the pressure relief to 2. On the new machine 1 is the sweet spot. I haven't experimented with the other variations that are available.

The humidifier is particularly nice. I take the tank out, then fill it from the top. Using much less water than on my M-series. Actually did an experiment about this. We usually run a humidifier in the room during the winter. Two nights ago we left it off, and I used about 1/2 tank of water from my System One. Last night we ran the room humidifier, and I used less than 1/4 tank from the System One. Smart machine.

I'll be able to say more about my numbers when I get software installed.

I also have the PR1 and have now been using it for a month. It is my first and only CPAP machine as I started my CPAP journey just a month ago.

My impression of it is it's quiet and very easy to use. I like the one touch button to turn it on. Makes it easy to get started at night and to get up to go to the bathroom at night. As far as the humidifier, I tend to have to refill it every other day. We keep our bedroom quite chilly at night and it seems to provide me enough moisture. If I need to fill, I'll either fill it from the top or open it up and fill it with the distilled water. I find that you have to be careful how much you put in because it will leak if you overfill it. Have done that several times and left a nice puddle on our kitchen counter.

I am one of the people who successfully downloaded the software and am using it all the time. The one thing I had to make sure I got was Windows Installer. Once I did the download and install was easy. I download the data via my card reader in my laptop about every few days. I absolutely love having the data especially because I can keep track of my own therapy and not depend on my RT or Dr. I can't to have the follow up appt. with my dr. and be able to ask many intelligent questions. However I am continually learning how to interpret and understand the reports. But every time I look at them I seem to get better and better at it.

Thus so far I am really enjoying the PR1 and especially since it has the data available to us. One other thing, I have forgotten to put the SD card into the PR1 and then slept without in the machine. But after putting the card back into the PR1 it puts the previous night(s) data on it and then I am able to download it back onto computer very easily. Thus it seems it is not a machine that deletes the information daily but keeps it for a long time. I am assuming it is up to 30 days because that is the averages that are calculated when looking on the PR1 screen.

I have had my machine about a month now. Love the machine. As far as the humidifier goes, I always fill from the top. A little trick I learned to keep from flooding the floor is to put my index finger in the whole that interfaces with the machine (like a stopper) and then fill from the top until my finger feels wet. Nice dipstick-zero cost!
