extra strong chin strap

Everyone,

I am still not keeping my mouth closed when I wear a nasal mask. I have a respironics chin strap. Is there a better option? I am still using a full face or attempting to, but when I wake up in the middle of the night, I switch to the nasal.

The Remzzz's seem to help alot with leaks, but a full mask is not my long term goal.

My pressure is 18, which is part of the problem, I need a different style of machine.

I dont like using tape.

It depends so much on your face shape. Chinstraps don't help if you jaws don't meet perfectly. I could use an iron one and still leak because of the between the bottom and the top. And if I meet my teeth together my lips open.

Try the Hybrid mask.

I use the Respironics Chin-Strap, and notice that after 6m of daily use, I need to replace it. Is yours (relatively) new, or maybe yours is also getting "elastic fatigue"?

Otherwise, do you have it adjusted so that while awake, if you open your mouth, you have to consciously hold your jaw open, or it'll close it for you? I have a large head, so didn't need to adjust it much to make it "firm" on my jaw w/o causing my teeth to ache...

I have used the Pap-Cap and it is indeed very strong and lends stability to the mask setup. Although I'm a great one for air slipping around the teeth, while I was using the PapCap I did not need mouth tape, more or less by the strap having preventing "chipmunk cheeks" of air that then slip through the teeth.

I have a nerve trigger point at the jaw that's preventing me from using straps at the moment--I'm back to taping my mouth. But I was very impressed with the Pap-Cap even so and recommend it without hesitation.

I think the papcap is the only decent strap out there!! I stretch the elastic and neoprene ones in less than a week. Washing them is only good for a couple days at a time after that. Even my making my own like the Ruby, my favorite design, out of material 2.5 times as thick, I'd stretch it out all too soon.

What is funny to me, is I'd not run across the picture used in this thread, during my shopping for the papcap. This manikin has it on right!!! i tried it on the point of the chin and nearly sent it back. This location lets the back of the tongue block air from even coming into the mouth, let alone out of the mouth. I hitch it up in a more vertical angle so it doesn't draw my chin back. I'm a believer!!
