ResScan Software & USB cable
ResScan Software & USB cable
I found the ResScan software on ebay for $20, has anyone else purchased and used that software at that price? Seems awfully inexpensive considering I haven't found it for any less than about $190 on the Inernet.
Anyone found the USB cable and adapter for the Resmed S8's for anything less than $65? In this day and age I am very surprised that Resmed hasn't starting including Bluetooth for data exhange.

At this time, ResMed does not view us, the consumer, as their customer...their customers are the sleep labs and DMEs. They do not allow legal sales of their software in the US; it is available thru other countries (notably Australia). You can use a generic card reader, but there are challenges to getting the drivers to work and ya gotta eyeball the contact pts or create a card guide (available in threads here). There are other ways to collecting data, the USB adapter or the ResLink with the latter providing the most data at the greatest price...figures . The upcoming (who knows when?) Series 9 models will be wireless as I understand what little ResMed has leaked.

Re: ResScan Software & USB cable
Yes--I bought ResScan 3.7 from Ebay after I email the seller with concerns that this software could become or have problems with Vista operating system. His reply was that he was aware of complaints with drivers and if there were problems he would refund all funds. I purchased it for $3.95 and received an email with a link to a site and and access code. It down loaded without problems and installed successfully. I bought the card reader from the sponsor site and I transferred data from the S8.
I now look at data daily and all works well.
There are multiple loyal customers that have written complains posted on this forum about the seemly lack of ResMed responding that WE are their ultimate customer base and working to keep us happy with their products should be as high a priority as is all other finical bottom line concerns or legal issues.
Hopefully, all works well for you and happy holidays.

I also inquired about compatibility with Vista, and bought the 3.7 software. I also got the card reader from the site sponser. I can say that I've had zero issues with the software. It's been very beneficial to me to be able to monitor my progress...
Re: ResScan Software & USB cable
There is a USB adapter on cpapauction.com going for less than $65 (so far).
I bought mine from our sponsor site and while a couple of other sites had it for around $5 less I went with them to say thanks for running some great sites for xPAP users. Works great under Vista 32 bit on my MacBook Pro.

So I found that cpap-supply.com out of Washington state is advertising the ResScan 3.7 software on their website for $189...what's up with that?

Re: ResScan Software & USB cable
I am currently getting up and running on a Resmed S8 Autoset II.
The doctors and DME here are really jumpy about you trying to understand your own health treatment, and generally unhelpful. I suspect this has to do with income streams. As my insurance company has seen fit to give an exclusive deal to one DME in the area (a really stupid thing to do from a competitive standpoint), I need to take control of this issue.
I will try to document the whole saga when done, but I have a technical issue. I am a mechanical engineer, very techy, so you do not need to be gentle. Just hit me with solutions if you have them
I have the Rescan 3.7 software and the Resmed USB adapter (the fixed one that connects directly to the machine, not the card reader).
I am using Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate.
I can not get the drivers up and running and have tried various things, including:
- installing from the program folder included during software install
- Removing and reinstalling that driver using device manager.
- I tried the ARC38 drivers mentioned in another thread here, but suspect that they are actually for the card reader.
Nothing that I am doing is allowing connection. When I plug in the machine, a USB driver loads up in device manager with an exclamation point and note that it is not working properly. Has anyone gone through this exercise and found something that works?
Since I am using Ultimate here, the next step may be to go to XP mode on the PC for this activity, but I am really trying not to do that, because it is just extra steps.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Thank you, IMTired. I must have missed the "bold print" at the bottom.
I will reinstall in Virtual XP mode on Windows 7 which is a 32 bit Virtual Machine within the 64 bit operating system. I will report back here when I solve it so that we can capture for others with the same issue.

Re: ResScan Software & USB cable
I solved my problem. As promised, for future generations, here is one way to make it work.
Problem - Windows 7 64 bit operating system will not run ResScan software (specifically driver for USB connection)
Use Windows 7 Virtual XP mode (You may need Ultimate version of Windows 7 for this unfortunately)
Install ResScan 3.7 choosing driver for your setup
Plug in your machine and from the top center menu in Virtual XP choose USB and tell it to load the device.
All seems to work after that. Windows 7 Virtual XP allows you to open these programs from the standard start menu. They are located in a folder [Windows Virtual PC] [Windows XP Mode Applications]
From there, you can pin the program to the Win 7 taskbar or create a shortcut on the desktop if you would like.
Hope that is useful for someone other than me.
Soon to follow in a new thread, issues and questions that I am working through. I appreciate the support forum.

Re: ResScan Software & USB cable
Well folks the story goes like this: When I went in for my 6 week checkup with the doc, the first thing they asked for was the SD card from my machine. They had never mentioned it and I didn't know anything about it, but I knew that my machine does not have the facilities for the SD card. Well, in order to pull data from my machine you either have to get the optional card device or download the data from the machine to a computer using ResScan. My equipment supplier is 30 miles away and the hours they are open (drugstore) is not coducive to my workschedule. This means that I would have to schedule on saturday mornings and bring the whole machine with me to download the data so they can provide it to the doc. So being an IT pro, I decided I would do it myself. After some homework, here's what I came up with:
1) The ResScan software (v3.7) is the current version. It WILL work with Vista (32bit). I found it in 3 places; $199, $99, or $29.
2) The ResMed USB to Serial cable; $99 or $69
The solution was to purchase the software from the least costly source after which a download (69Mb) is required. (Make a backup) I then purchased a good quality USB to Seral convertor cable. This cost me $15 through Amazon.
I installed the software and it works just fine on my Vista laptop. Connected up the cable and it autoset the port, so all was good there. Connected to the machine and got NADA, ZIP. Called the cable manufacturer and they told me that it was a "null modem cable" which is what is required. I troubleshot the dumb thing for 2 days, even pulling out an old modem to see if it would work. It did. Pulled out a known good "null modem cable" from my stash and voila! it recognized the machine and download began immediately. I then called the cable manufacturer and set them straight.
So, here's what I would do if I were you.
Procure the software (I paid $29). Secondly, buy the cable that you need depending on your computer's configuration. Many of the new computers do NOT have a serial port, in which case you will have to buy a USB to Serial cable AND a Null modem adapter. All in all it shouldn't cost you more than $50 to get set up to pull data from your machine to your computer.
Identify WHO needs the data and WHAT data is needed and then you can print, email, export to a card, etc from ResScan. Understand that in my case the machine only retains the DETAILED data for 3 days, though it retains (per manual) the summary data for 1 year. If you want the detailed data you have to download from the machine AT LEAST every 3 days.
I don't know anything about interpretation of the data, but I do know computers.

The problem occurs because windows 7 64 bit requires digitally signed drivers to be able to get the Resmed USB adapter to work .
It probably did install correctly, windows 7 64 bit just won't use it. They just are not signed.
To get W7 64 to recognize the driver, you must start windows in a different mode! To do this, you must press the F8 key during the boot process. Just keep hitting the F8 key during boot and you should catch the alternate start up screen.
This is where the modes for debugging problems with windows is accessed.
At the top of the list is the safe modes and near the bottom is an entry that allows you to run unsigned drivers. Select this option
and the USB driver will work once the system is up and running. This is not permanent and the problem will reoccur on the next reboot unless you press F8 and select the alternate boot mode.
W7 32 bit doesn't have this problem, just 64 bit!
I have my Autoset II and ResScan USB working with version 3.11(newest) of the software, but version 3.7 (older) should still work.
