Changing Masks - from Opus 360

Post by jabbered » Tue Feb 23, 2010 9:33 am

I finally got my new machine after two months of haggling with insurance and DME's. I changed from an M series to a PR System 1 Remstar Auto.
I've been using an Opus 360 for nearly 2 years, my entire time on CPAP.

I decided to try a different mask, the Easy Life style from PR. Even after just a few nights, it's much worse than I remembered from my sleep study. I was properly fitted and it felt good while awake in doctor and DME office. However since getting home, it seems so much heavier and I can't stop trying to adjust to get a better fit. I think the weight of the new mask is part of it and that its so much bigger.

I'm ready to go back to my Opus or other nasal pillow mask. Do you think I would like either the Swift FX or Mirage Swift LT over the Opus 360? Anyone have any experience with using Opus and one/both of the others?

The swift LT sits on your upper lip. The Opus does not. I did not like the Swift LT, do like the Opus 360.

The Swift LT is the only mask I've had, and it has enabled me to adjust the CPAP therapy with no difficulty. It's very light and comfortable.

I'm also curious why you want to change from the Opus 360. I've thought about trying that mask. What don't you like about it??

I really like it, but thought it might be worth trying a nasal mask.

To wear around, the EasyLife is very comfortable, but I often toss and turn when sleeping. I tried it during my sleep study and it seemed to work well, but I only went from my side, to my back once. After getting awful sleep for the 1st half of the night, any mask was relief.

It doesn't stay in place as well as the Opus now that I'm using it for a full night. The Opus stays in place very well.

I started with the LT and have tried a few others since beginning therapy in November '08 (hybrid, FullLife, Opus 360). The 360 is now my primary mask, with occassional use of the LT. Unfortunately the hybrid and FullLife have been relegated to the corner since they simply do not work for me.

If you really like your 360, then I would stick with it. The LT is very similar, but it does to a degree rest on your upper lip. From what I have seen of the FX, it appears to be much more similar to the 360.

Anyone have an opinion on the Swift FX vs. the Opus?

Does it sit on your lip like the LT?

The FX does not sit on your lip as much as the LT did. It's a narrower pillow. I have tried both. I've only had 3 nights with the FX but it seems better so far - not quite as much on the upper lip as the LT.

I have also tried the Opus 360 and, so far, can't seem to get a very good seal with it.
