Hose coming off mask

Post by Bearcat42 » Thu Feb 18, 2010 9:13 pm

Has anyone else had this nagging problem of your hose coming unattached from the mask while asleep? It for sure isnt the most pleasant feeling to awake suddenly because you can't get hardly any air. I travel quite a bit with my job so my mask goes on and off the hose more than I would like but can that cause the connection(friction) to weaken over time because of this? If this is the case what is a good solution to add more friction back to the connection? Or is it time for a new hose? This is the same hose that came with my machine almost a year ago and the mask I have had for about 5 month's.

I only had this happen once, a few months ago. I've had both my hoses since Aug '07 & both appear to be in good shape, they get periodically washed and rotated. I am very careful now to ensure the hose is firmly attached to my mask as I think mine wasn't well-connected. The rubber ends can and do wear out over time esp if you're rought with twisting 'em on and off.

I have an old hose and mask and if I don't wash them they come apart. Washing seems to restore them for a few days.

Not sure where my previous reply disappeared, but here goes again:

For the long run, I would suggest a new hose, and this: https://www.cpap.com/productpage/hose-q ... nnect.html You can keep it in the hose until it needs to be replaced -- the wear and tear will happen in this little plastic piece instead of the hose seal.

I never take the hose off of the connector on the mask end, but I have had the end that goes on the humidifier come off a time or two. What I've done is to clean the inside of the connectors on both ends (used hot water and rubbed my finger around the inside) and then switched ends. The end that doesn't come off as often seems to tighten up.

Sounds like a used hose. I had the same problem. Your DME should exchange it for one that works.

Your insurance should pay for a new hose every 6 months, and a mask every 3 months. I travel every week with mine too, but I leave hose hooked to the mask and CPAP machine. It fits nicley all attached in my suitcase. Now I would not fly like this due to the suitcase being thrown around, but driving I know where it is.

Get a hose clamp and tork it down it down using a screwdriver or a nut driver. Then drill a hole through the handle of the tool you used. Then run a long shoelace through the hole. Then tie the whole thing to the hose so you want lose it.
Just kidding Get a new hose. I also travel a lot so I went up to a 10ft hose. Much more freedom when you have to set things up using whatever is in the room.

I have several of the quick connectors that Ozij mentioned. She also posted the link to them.

I have one on the hose I am using, on my spare hose, and on the hose of my backup/travel machine.

They work very well - no wear and tear on the hose and cheaper to replace than a hose. I find it helpful to have a few around. The can also be used where the hose connects to the machine and/or, in my case, the F & P HC 150 stand alone humidifier. Actually I use the elbow connector on the humdifier/machine end of the hose and the quick connecters on the mask end. Both would work fine.

Yes, I had to replace the hose. It was about a year and a half old at that point. Replacing the hose fixed the problem and I got a better hose. Respironics has a very lightweight hose now, I love it.
