Break-away hose connector?

Post by Ramma2 » Thu Feb 18, 2010 1:19 pm

I keep my machine on a small stool next to the bedside, it sits about 2 ft off the ground. Twice now in the past 6 months I have woken up to my machine being on the floor! The first time it wasn't a big issue since the machine was right side up (like I had picked it up and set it on the floor in my sleep) but this last time the machine was upside down and still running. Thankfully my water tank was nearly empty and no damage was done, but it was startling to wake up with my machine pumping water into my hose

I assume I'm getting tangled up in my hose and pulling the machine off the stand. Does anyone know of any sort of quick release/break away hose connection I could use, where if I start to pull on the machine it unclips and my machine stays put? My mask has something like that, but I don't think I'm pulling on the mask side of the hose.

They make quick disconnects, but I don't think it would be useful for what you are describing. I think a hose management system that would not allow you to pull your machine like the Hozer system would be more beneficial for you

That happened to me one night. cpap ended up on the floor, off the bed wall unit. Figured since it happened only one night since therapy, I must have just slept wildly and put it behind me.

You could try to purchase a small drawer cabinet, and put the cpap inside the drawer, to prevent this from happening.

Yeah, I would suggest putting more effort into getting a heavier "something" (nightstand) to put it on. Then, put it on a rubberized pad of some kind, and then strap it down.

I keep mine ON the floor - it hasn't fallen down yet

If you want to keep your current setup, you can simply anchor the hose. My machine is on my nightstand, and I anchored the hose where it meets my headboard, so that I can pull on the mask-end of the hose all I want without moving the machine. You could anchor your hose to the wall, the nightstand, whatever works for you.

Here's a pic of what I did:

I used a picture hanger, a keychain ring, and a Velcro One-Wrap around the hose (holding the ring in place). I wasn't concerned about nailing the picture hanger into my wooden headboard, but you could use a Command Hook, instead (which leaves no marks). This setup leaves me plenty of hose to work with but prevents the possibility of tugging the machine off the nightstand.

Another option to consider. Hope it helps.
Veni, vidi, Velcro. I came, I saw, I stuck around.
