Need suggestion for cheap second machine..

Post by Debjax » Wed Feb 17, 2010 8:43 pm

Hi, I am looking for suggestions for a cheap second machine. This one will be kept at my son's house (they just had their first baby) for when I go to visit (monthly at least). Rather than break down my Resmed Elite II every trip, I think I'm just going to by a second machine to keep at their house. This one does not have to be data capable, it will only get used a couple of nights at a time. As long as I can set the titration to 8, and has a heated humidifier, it should work for what I want to do. Anyone have any suggestions? I need it to be as inexpensive as I can get it to be....

Just a thought, do you use and like EPR? That's a deal-breaker for me, and I wouldn't settle for less, so a cheap back-up wouldn't do.

I have a "travel list" for my cpap equipment, and put everything in a Rubbermaid box, which also serves as the table for my cpap, when we travel.

Enjoy your new grand-baby!

ooo, good point....yes, I do use the EPR. For going to son's house, it will be frequent enough that I don't want to be bothered breaking down the home machine 2 or 3 times month for a couple of nights, when I can just keep one at their place in the spare room. When travelling to the other son's house, I fly so the rubbermaid box won't work, but hubby is going to make me a "portable stand" that will pack in my carryon and strap to it for a hard surface to keep the machine on.

Thanks for pointing out the EPR, I had forgotten about that. Maybe I'll turn it off tonight to see how hard it would be for me...

Congratulations, Debjax. You've been away for so long -- it's good to see you!

A further consideration, in additon to EPR is noise level. The ResMeds are exceptionally quiet.

O,

I've traveled frequently with my cpaps during the past eleven years. After you do it a couple of times, it only takes 2-3 minutes to pack the machine and accessories, and you'll likely save hundreds of dollars you'd use in purchasing another machine. Just don't forget your power cord or mask, as I did a couple of times. I now have a brief checklist . . .

I have a Remstar Auto Data Capable with I believe 137 hours on it, looks new, has a card reader and is data capable. Comes with the Humidifier. I keep it for backup only but have thought about moving on to better newer machines as I like to experiment. If this sounds like something you might be interested, then PM me at josef46@suddenlink,net I'm sure we could work something out. I'm a retired Senior Citizen and certainly not out to try and take advantage of anyone ever.

Well, maybe 3-5 minutes counting everything, but it's still a good point.

One trick is to make a list. When you're in a hurry, the list reminds you what you might otherwise have forgotten.

I went to this routine after the trip where I had diligently brought along everything but the power cord.

A list makes packing the gear faster and you have more assurance that you have what you need.

I also recommend the use of a high quality surge protector, for both home and away. It protects your investment in your machine.

I have found that after the first couple of naps taken with the non EPR machine I can handle the steady pressure without a problem.
Someone suggested that ramp startup may be an acceptable way to ease into the full pressure to go to sleep.

So I have and use for travel the everest 3 with heated humidifier that CPAP.com has for $345 .
