A sleep lab of a different flavor.

Agape
I had the pleasure of accepting Agape's offer to visit his new sleep lab.

My only experience w/a sleep lab was the hospital lab I went to.
Situated deep in the bowels of a major hospital.
Very intimidating, like most hospitals are.
It had a nice room w/attached bath/shower.
It had that massive lab cart next to the bed w/all the sleep equipment on it.
I was barely able to function when I went in. I had to take ambien to sleep,
which further dulled my senses. I can hardly remember much about the night.
I was totally wasted when I walked out that am. Thought the entire thing was a waste of time.

Agape has a new idea. Take the lab experience out of that atmosphere.....way out.
LoDo. For those not familiar w/Denver, LoDo is Lower Downtown.
When I grew up, lower downtown was the warehouse/skidrow area.

In the past 20yrs, LoDo has been reclaimed and rebuilt.
It is the home of the new baseball stadium and the center for ice hockey
and basketball. I rarely go down there. I have no interest in any of those things.
I'm a west side kid....always have been....always will be.
The warehouses and historic buildings have been reclaimed into retail centers,
upscale restaurants, apartments and lofts.

The new sleep lab has been created in a loft.
The east wall of the lab is entire glass looking toward the east.
At night it would be beautiful w/the lights and I could just imagine
waking up to the view of the sun coming up. Pretty cool.

As you enter to the left of the stairs, you feel like you are coming home.
Full kitchen for snacks before/during the night and coffee/breakfast in the am.
Image

As you pass through the sitting area, you are immediately drawn to the view out the
windows to the east and the techs monitoring stations.
Pretty nice work environment.

Image

This is the first floor bed room w/all the monitoring equipment, neatly on the shelf.
Nothing intimidating here.
Image
and the private, adjoining dressing room and bath room. Very nice.
Image
The floor to ceiling windows of the bedrooms create a wonderful open, relaxed atmosphere.
Image

The second lab sleeping room is up stairs and just the same layout.

There is not a feel of being in a clinical/hospital setting at all.
Very not intimidating. Very much like being at very nice hotel or
even a bed and breakfast.
We discussed all aspects of the sleep business.
Very enlightening. Very educational.

As I was driving home, I thought about all the people that,
through this lab and experience and the watchful, caring eyes of Agape,
will be given a chance for their lives to begin anew,
just as mine has.

Thanks! for the opportunity to meet you and share your dreams.

Agape=love, I wish for you success beyond your wildest dreams.

Now that is a clinic worth visiting - that bed in particular looks very inviting

One thing I might mention, although this isn't a negative just my own view.

I am terrified of heights so an upstairs bedroom with that open view would send me into a tailspin like you wouldn't believe. I know we were once in an a nice hotel with the several stories and catwalks around the rooms with the center being entirely open for a gorgeous waterfall. I didn't realize this about the place until we went to check in and they gave us our room number. I looked at them and then up to one of the upper floors and said not thanks. Told them "ain't know way I can make down to that room from the elevator". I figure that others have voiced it before me cause she just smiled and said they could change our room.

So just be forewarned and not be surprised if someone ask to switch rooms.

Sure would have found this easier to fall sleep, less intimidating for sure! 'Cept maybe for lights at night...still keenly sensitive to light & noise . Good luck Agape, great looking lab! Thanks for posting your experience & the images Cman!

The word "franchise" comes immediately to mind.

Those beds look positively sumptuous, and the whole atmosphere is very inviting. Anyone in their right mind would choose a setting like this one over anything else that's currently available for a sleep study.

Kudos to you, Agape=Love, and to you, C-Man (for checking it out and reporting on it - with pictures, no less). Thanks!
Veni, vidi, Velcro. I came, I saw, I stuck around.

Looks really comfortable. The inside of the building looks like Premier Lofts at 2200 market or 2101 right down the street. Is that where this is located?

Why I didn't know this sooner, I went to a different lab test in Lone Tree.

Thanks so much for your positive feedback. This sleep (boutique) center idea was born right here... I listened (read)to everyone here for nearly a year as well as my patients (working as an RT for a local DME) of how difficult it was to fall asleep, of how un-inviting and stressful their studies were. So this is the response.

I want to personally thank CM for making the journey out to see us.. and creating this post. We had great conversations about this forum and sleep overall, We also discussed a future support group that is more patient driven then clinician driven. Looking forward to working with him on that very exciting.

I also want to thank Nate (from this forum) who was brave enough to travel from Iowa to Denver as one of our first patients.

I want to thank Michelle for her support (as I put us in some serious debt to achieve this, I love you thank you for believing in me) it will pay off I promise, our great friend and partner Dr. M for believing in my vision and his commitment on this project and Terry for his guidance reminding me to remain humble to all of you (couldn't have done this without you guys.. thank you for supporting a vision!)

Yes we are located inside Premier Lofts. They are the only building in LoDo that is mixed zone for commercial/residential.

We just opened. Hopefully you could recommend us to friends family co-workers who have trouble sleeping

Sleepycarol, thanks I will keep that in thought of those with "heights" issue.

Again
Thank you guys, (and cpaptalk for creating this wonderful forum) as you are my motivation to create something unique this center is every bit of yours as it is ours. I will keep you all posted on our progress!

For those interested and in the area PM me details on getting a study and therapy with us.

Bless,

Agape

OHMYGOSH! I live in the Denver area, and just had a sleep test two weeks ago, at a hospital. This definitely would have been an improvement! Wish I'd known about this site earlier, and taken advantage of the beautiful setting. Do they take most insurance? And who do you go through to request this setting?

Franchise?
At least.

In fact, I'd like to book a room for my next visit to your neck of the woods! Whatever you aren't using for sleep studies you should be renting out to hoseheads who are travelling to your area. And throw in a free sleep study with the deluxe rooms.

My sleep studies are done at a clinic in a less than desirable part of town in a strip mall; albeit a brand new strip mall. Is this a money making machine or what?

I'd stay at your lab and be looking for the lounge and restaurant. Outstanding.

The best of luck to you in this venture. Sure beats anything I have seen.

Murray
