Mask beeping at me?!
Last night I perceived my mask to be beeping at me. One pillow was slipping out of my nose, and when I'd push it in, the beeping would stop. When I'd let go, the beeping would start again. I kept thinking, "How can the MASK be beeping?!" The leak alert is set to off. What could this be?

Question...The HC431 FF mask that you show in your profile doesn't have pillows. What mask are you using?

Re: Mask beeping at me?!
Ahhh, yes, good question that I ask myself all the time. I am alternating because I haven't found one that works. The 431 medium is too small, the large is too big, so some nights it leaks terribly... Last night I used the Hybrid. And that's the one that was trying to communicate to me in Morse code last night. I'm pretty sure it was saying, "Take me off, and throw me across the room" because as soon as I did that, it stopped beeping at me.LSAT wrote:Question...The HC431 FF mask that you show in your profile doesn't have pillows. Re: Mask beeping at me?!
1. Is it constant or intermittant? If intermittant is it a regular pattern or random?
2. Is it definitely an electronic beep, or could it be the high-pitched whistle of a tiny pillow leak?
3. When you say "pillow coming out of my nose" are we talking just beginning to dislodge or major leakage?
4. Have you tried nipple grease? (on your nostrils, of course...in case there's any doubt!)

The OSA patient died quietly in his sleep.

Re: Mask beeping at me?!
To the best of my groggy memory...
I had loosened straps just a little because I felt pressure from the mask right under my nose (upper lip, just under my nose), so I'm not terribly surprised if it started to slip, especially with the "grease". But I have never been beeped at by my machine, and I don't know why it would be doing that if the LCD says the leak alert is off.
I think constant beeping ("beep, beep, beep, beep...") until I'd push the pillow back in, then it would stop. When I let go, it would start again. I did this a few times, so pretty sure it had something to do with the nostril leak. However, the leak alert is set to off, and according to the LCD, I have 0% large leaks for my 7-day average (course that doesn't mean that on the download I won't see a brief leak last night).LinkC wrote:1. Electronic.2. Is it definitely an electronic beep, or could it be the high-pitched whistle of a tiny pillow leak?
I didn't look in the mirror, but I would say enough that I had some clue in my sleep to push there, so it must have slipped out somewhat. It couldn't have slipped out completely because the other one was in and it's wired up to the forehead with scrunchies.3. When you say "pillow coming out of my nose" are we talking just beginning to dislodge or major leakage?
Yup, I had Lansinoh in and around my nostrils, trying to prevent the sores I was getting inside my nose when I last used the Hybrid.4. Have you tried nipple grease? (on your nostrils, of course...in case there's any doubt!)

Re: Mask beeping at me?!
I believe what your describing is the mask alert function of the machine. This is different than a leak alert. Machine will beep at you if it thinks the mask has been disconnected from the patient. I believe you can find this on page 11 of your user manual
Re: Mask beeping at me?!
Well, I was suspecting a tiny, but noisy pillow leak.
But if it's definitely electronic, I haven't a clue. (Pretty crummy answer after you answered all those questions, huh?)
It sure SOUNDS like it could be a leak alarm, but if that's turned off... ???
Might try turning the leak alarm ON and causing an intentional leak to set off the alarm and see if it's the same sound...
(Keep in mind that may skew your numbers slightly for the night.)
EDIT: Just read rj's post. I think he nailed it! Dang new-fangled machines with their bells and whistles...

Re: Mask beeping at me?!
I apologize - I've been saying the "leak alert" is off and I meant that the "mask alert" is set to off, so that's why I'm not sure why it was beeping at me. What's the leak alert?

Re: Mask beeping at me?!
if you set the mask alert to on then if you develope a leak which the machine can not compensate for then you'll get an alarm. If your mask becomes disconnected from the machine it will alarm as well. I don't think you can disable that alarm. I'm doing this from memory I could be wrong, I deal with so many different machines, I'll check the manuals and get back to you if I'm wrong
