Hi. I am a newbie and I just wanted to say this is the best board I have ever read. I can not wait to get involved with posts. I used my CPAP for the first time last night and i slept all night except to go to bathroom. It is soooo wonderful. My only problem was when i first put the mask on I thought I was gonna have to pull it off because I felt like I was suffocating. I ramped it for 45 minutes and I guess that was too long. I am not sure. Any suggestions on this matter? Thank you!

Hi chaser,

Welcome to the board!

I'd just turn ramp off completely, if it were me. But if you like ramp, and if the ramp is set to start out down at a pressure of 4, you might want to raise the starting pressure some...to 5 or 6. That usually is better than "4", for avoiding a suffocating feeling when you first start the machine each night.

Good luck and keep posting!

Thank You Rested Gal. I will try that. It was recommended when i picked up the CPAP that i start on 45 minutes. Thank you again.

I agree with rested gal, I would turn the ramp time down or off. I do remember that feeling of thinking i was suffocating, but don't give up! The benefits are worth the struggle. Good luck!

Or ramp for 5-15 minutes and raise the pressure at the start up. When i first started I ramped up in five minutes and started at 6 to 8 to 10. I don't ramp at all now.

I agree. I stopped ramping pretty early on.

Whoa - 40 posts: time to shut up for the night!

Hi Cathy

& **WELCOME** you have come to the >>right<< place - absolutely *the* best cpap forum in the world (In My Humble Opinion )

RG has it sussed - cut the ramp back - I am on 14/15cms & run no ramp just so I can get that lovely lovely air when I start (helps get past my stuffed nose).

On a rare occasion I will hit ramp but 95% of the time it is full blast, even if I find it an effort to breathe out, that is a minor irritation compared to getting all that lovely air in

all humour aside - welcome & enjoy the ride

Cheers

Thanks everyone for the help. I tried ramping for 5 minutes last night and it was better. I am gonna go for it full force tonight. Thanks again for all your help.
