Anyone currently using an Aussie heated hose?

Post by Jersey Girl » Wed Feb 10, 2010 3:19 pm

Dear Friends,

I just ordered an Aussie heated hose. I am tired of having water dripping down my upper lip every night. My husband likes it cold in the bedroom - winter and summer and so, I am making the investment.

Question: How do you clean this hose? (My regular hose I just use dishwashing liquid and hot water and then hang to dry.)

I've only had mine 4-5 months.......hasn't needed cleaning yet.

It's something I'd replace in a minute if something happened to it.

Haven't cleaned my heated hose -- been using it several years. It's just clean distilled water vapor going up through it.

used mine 3 years- cant use my mask [ twilight np ] without it

I actually have a fleece over the aussie heated hose- also fleece on short hose to mask-
and even on short pieces going down to nose pillows

to clean- put soapy water in hose- slosh up and down for 1/2 minute- dump out soapy water- then rinse and hang to dry
[only do once every couple months-

Dear Packer,

Thanks for writing back. I thought that maybe I could not put water in the hose because it is electrical?

I clean my regular hose every week...

I got an adjustable power adapter from a local supplier(Frys) and can set the voltage at 9 or 12 volts so that I can tweak the hose heating up or down if needed This particular model had many tips so I could find the one that worked with the hose.

I also got a cheap digital wall timer so it turns on at 10PM every night and off at 8AM since I kept forgetting to unplug it.

Packer,
Curious, as I just started with PR System one humidifier(see separate thread), and am amazed at the LACK of rainout with this new system. You find the need to keep the heated hose still?
Thanks.

I have a PR System One, and never had a drop of rainout when I used the humidifier. However, I find I like life much better without humidity, much less congestion.

But I still LOVE and cannot live without my Aussie Heated Hose. Its so nice and cozy to the touch, and very flexible. And it doesn't really heat the air, rather it takes the edge off of it as I prefer to keep my bedroom at deep-freeze status.

I just ordered another one so that I have a back up or for travel, I will not do without my Aussie Heated Hose!

I agree with RG - no need to clean.

I've been using mine for a few months now. As someone who likes to sleep in a cold room, it's made a huge difference... I can't say there's NEVER rainout. Once in a while, there's some moisture. But it's very very little and doesn't create any problem. What a relief!

I also got a cheap digital timer that automatically turns it on at a set time each night, and off in the AM. A good investment of $15. (and it has the option of 2 different settings: weekday and weekend can be different.)

the heated hose was one of the things that made the biggest difference for me-
I tried a bunch of different masks and found the Twilight NP to be the best for me [ a large head- big hat size]

it rains a lot- and I live in Wisconsin- so yeah I needed the heated hose to get by-

we sleep with window in master bath open 1/2 inch or so unless it way below zero-

bedroom is typically 60 to 63 in AM- also I like quite a bit of humidity- PR 1 set on 3-
[ if I fill it way full I get 2 days ]

so for me- the heated hose was a big deal- otherwise my preferred mask couldnt be used

I have a PR1 for home base and a Autoset II for travel. I am considering getting an Aussie hose for the travel unit because sometimes I still get rainout with the Autoset and also I go to my vacation home where the heat is turned way down in the winter and it takes a good long time to heat up the house. I remember reading about the CPAP-induced hypothermia from using CPAP in less than 55 deg F air. I could bring the PR1 on these occasions but I think it still might need a boost in cold weather situations.

I don't know what power supply Sleepzone ships with US deliveries, but the one I received with my Australian shipment was 240V only transformer based unit. I immediately went out and dropped another ~$20 on a switched mode power supply plug pack from an electronics store. It was not only significantly ligher but was also automatically multi-voltage, so I can use it anywhere in the world I can use my Resmed S8.

This isn't exactly what I bought (as the models have changed) but it will give you some idea of what these things look lile....

http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.as ... BCATID=647

... obviously a US version would have power pins to suit a US wall outlet, and have appropriate UL compliance marks instead of the Australian "tick" compliance mark.

So, for anyone who wants to take a Sleepzone heated hose travelling, you might want to look at getting a switched mode power supply plug pack.

Cheers,

Bill

Been using my Aussie hose for 3 1/2 yrs now. I used to clean it weekly, but haven't cleaned it in years now. I only use distilled water in the HH so nothing should be growing in there.
