OSA and vertigo

Post by spirit390 » Mon Feb 08, 2010 2:15 pm

Anyone else suffer from this dreaded condition. If so what has helped you or made it worse. I have cut out 99% of my caffeine use and that has made a profound difference but it still haunts me. In the winter it gets worse when the darn humidifier runs out of water every three hours and my machine blows hot dry air. I have the control on half and the hose rarely gurgles so I don't think I have the humidity setting wrong I also run a humidifier in the room also. I use a netty pot also and it gives some relief. Doctor prescribed Meclazine which has no redeeming value in my situation. It also seems to get worse when it is time for a new cushion for my mask. Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom.

Are you sure you are not incorrectly diagnosed? You might be suffering from Anxiety.

I occasionally suffer from vertigo. What has worked for me is the Epley Maneuver, which is an easy process to relieve a condition called BPPV (see http://www.webmd.com/brain/tc/benign-pa ... c-overview). BPPV occurs when crystals (or "stones") in the inner ear become displaced.

I was never diagnosed with anything, after a battery of tests. So I went looking for answers on the web and found out about BPPV. (I also have a friend who suffered from vertigo, and her doc suggested BPPV; after the Epley Maneuver, her dizziness went away.) Look on YouTube for videos of how the Maneuver is done. (I do the Epley myself, while laying in the middle of my bed.) I've had to perform it a few times, but it works for me; hopefully, it'll help you, too.

Scrapper, I think you're confusing spirit390 with Spirit.
Veni, vidi, Velcro. I came, I saw, I stuck around.

Dx 11/07: AHI 107, central apnea, Cheyne Stokes respiration, moderate-severe O2 desats. (Simple OSA would be too easy. ;))

PR S1 ASV 950, DreamWear mask, F&P 150 humidifier, O2 @ 2L.
