Pain At base of nose when waking

Post by sleepsalot » Tue Feb 02, 2010 10:04 am

I have been on CPAP therapy for about a week now and at first I was adjusting quite well. Now however I continue to wake up to feeling like i've been punched in the nose. I suspect this is because my nasal mask is pushing against the bottom of my nose when it catches on my pillow in the night, especially when I sleep on my stomach(I turn on my stomach while sleeping, I don't actually go to sleep like this). I actually checked to make sure it wasn't bleeding. It seems to get worse every night. Any ideas or similar experiences?
Thanks in advance!
-Jordan

Try a different mask?

I run a test drive for the Nasal Aire II. You can read more about it in the links below in my signature block. If you're interested in trying it before buying it, PM me your mailing info.

Cheers,
Barbara

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula. :)

When something similar happened to me my RT said I should stop for a couple of days. It's the beginning of a pressure sore, and you don't want to let one develop. If you hava a mask that will press somewhere else, use it. If you don't, consult with your RT or doctor about taking a break to let that tissue heal.

Since you are using the Mirage SoftGel, the Activa LT uses the same frame. But the cushion is much lighter, and "floats" so there is less pressing on your face. I find it seals better, too.

Thanks all for replies. I got the OPUS nasal pillow mask yesterday so we'll see if this helps!
