HELP! My wife kicked me out of the bedroom :(
Hi all, I am a new member of the boards. I will gather all of my machine and materials information and add to my profile, but for now, anyone else out there struggling with coming to grips with the need to wear a machine every night. When I don't wear the machine I make tons of noise and flail around the bed and when I do wear the machine I get horrible bloating and my pressure (which is 17 on a Bi-PAP machine) is overwhelming, waking me up multiple times during the night. It all feels so frustrating and pointless.
Re: HELP! My wife kicked me out of the bedroom :(
Is your inhale and exhale both set at 17 ? Have you tried toning it down ?
Re: HELP! My wife kicked me out of the bedroom :(
You will get used to it and it will get better. Hang in there!
Personally, I'm glad to be sleeping alone, so I can belch and fart in private.

Hello & Welcome, remorse! Glad you found this forum—SO much useful info and everyone here is so willing to help!
You're lucky to have found this forum as you begin CPAP—took me almost year before I found this place and, with the help of folks here, got my CPAP therapy working as it should. It does take time to get everything tweaked and working at its best, so patience is key as one begins CPAP. Hang in there!

welcome
your pressure may need to be reduced or perhaps you swallow air when partly asleep, try to sit up and burp when bloated

Welcome aboard! Great info and folks here.
Not pointless, it gets better!
Post your equipment any any other complaints, so folks can make some suggestions. Sounds like some tweaking will help...got some overnight numbers for us, like leak, AHI, AI, detailed pressure settings?remorse wrote:...get horrible bloating and my pressure (which is 17 on a Bi-PAP machine) is overwhelming, waking me up multiple times during the night. For the moment, maybe being where you don't have to add worrying about waking someone else to your adjustment problems is not such a bad thing for you. Every couple has to sort thru what works best for them. Clearly this is not your preferred choice. Try to reframe it as your wife needs her sleep too, so it doesn't feel so personal. Hope things level off in your treatment and the two of you are able to sleep together again soon. In the end, sleep is a solitary act. There's still all the waking hours available for team activities. Hope the hints from those with high pressure and bipap experience are helpful.

Well, some BiPAP machines deliver such high pressure only if there is an ostruction to clear. Otherwise, it drops the pressure to a more comfortable level. So, you may need to talk with your sleep doctor.remorse wrote:... and when I do wear the machine I get horrible bloating and my pressure (which is 17 on a Bi-PAP machine) is overwhelming, waking me up multiple times during the night. ...
Additionally, the lower pressure means the machine tends to be quieter. Good for both of you!

It will enhance your comfort if you use the machine when you are not going to sleep. Set your self up in front of the TV or while sitting in a chain and reading and turn on your machine. I have used a setting of 17 for many years and can tell you from experience that in no time with a little patients and a positive attitude you will get used to it. Do this for an hour or two every night until you reach that comfort level.

Why did your wife kick you out of the bedroom?? If it is noise, I use a white noise machine to mask the cpap noise. If it is because you wake repeatedly, then I agree that extra time with the cpap will help you adjust. Do you make a lot of noise when you get up during the night? It is a skill to be able to get up and then go back to bed without waking your partner. I will admit that the sound machine helps with this also. Good luck. There is a learning curve with everything.

First of all, Welcome to the group. I'm happy that you've joined us, there's tons of information here, and many wise and helpful folks on this board. I'm still learning tons of things every day, so hang in there and don't give up. As for the sleeping situation with your wife, don't worry about that either, things have a way of working out, and there's a lot of good advice here on how to help you both. It does take time to adjust to the CPAP life, but in time everything seems to just fall into place. It's a big adjustment for you both, I know it took my husband and I some time to adjust to my cpap, and we've been married 25 years, so hang in there and once again Welcome.

Interesting article about the scientific basis for separate beds. I wish I could convince my husband to sleep in another room!!
