ASV and data card?
ASV and data card?
I use an ASV made by ResMed. It has a "data card" which plugs into the machine and captures the data. After a month's use, I send the card to my doctor who then reads rhe data.
I'm on month two and am using a new card. The first one broke in the mail when he sent it back. I just noticed that when the machine starts I get a message that I never got before, "Upgrade Failed." It then continues through the rest of the steps. I'm sleeping OK, but what the huh does Upgrade Failed mean?
I'll call Apria and email my doctor. Apria probably won't know. The local office didn't even know what the card was.
Thanks.

Re: ASV and data card?
Welcome! Appears you have a ResLink module with the smart card. You may need to some cardboard to stiffen the envelope when you send it next time.ephraimh wrote:... I use an ASV made by ResMed. It sounds as if they either gave you a generic smart card (that had not been initialized) or had been initialized on another unit. As I understand it, the smart card also contains your therapy information (EEPAP number, and such). If that data is invalid (for a different type of machine), then you would get "Upgrade Failed". Or if it contained invalid firmware or firmware for a different machine... Same idea.
This is just a guess, but it is fairly reaonsable. I suspect you may need to go into the clinicians menu to initialize the Smart Card to correct this. Of course, it will probably wipe out the data it is recording.
Hope that helps.

Hi
Can you list your equipment please so we can be sure of what you are describing.
As John said, if you do indeed do have a Resmed & you have a 'datacard' then that says they have added a plug-on module to your machine called the ResLink.
It uses a standard datatcard called a SmartMedia (or SM) card. Any multimedia computer that has a smartmedia slot can format this card & it will work in the Reslink. The SM usb readers cost around $US12 from Amazon.
The size used in the Reslinks is 32MB but I believe a 64MB will work fine & maybe even a 128MB (I haven't tried bigger than the 32MB).
SmartMedia cards look like this ...

BUT, If your card looks the same size as a standard credit card then you may actually have a Respironics machine. Again, pls list your equip so we can help better.
Cheers

Re: ASV and data card?
'upgrade failed' suggests that the Doctor's reader program recognized the machine's firmware was out of date, and put new firmware on the card to download into the machine. And for whatever reason (and there could be a number of them) the upgrade didn't work. If you are lucky, the corrupt data didn't hurt anything. At worst, you have a half-upgraded machine that won't work.
Much as I dislike Apria, that is the place to start.

ASV and data card?
Contact your doctor. He may have made some adjustments to your therapy settings via the data card based on what he saw in your data download from the card. Why doesn't it come as any surprise that Apria didn't even know what the card was??? They have the worst reputation amongst the national DME providers altho some of their individual offices have provided good RRTs and good service.

Re: ASV and data card?
dsm, Does any of the above apply to Resmed VPAP ST machine card and reader? I just got that machine; now need to figure out how to view daily data on my pc. VPAP ST has as usb cable port, I just got the data card.dsm wrote:Hi

Used to use the Respironics and its credit card size sim-type chip card before; that really needed a special custom card reader. You seem to imply the generic SM readers may work with Resmed machines' cards?? Or that was only for a particular model? ST has a much narrower card with the sim type chip. Do you know any ref to the type of the connector on the cpap end of the usb cable? Is there any 3rd party Resmed sw for pc available? Discount prices? What format (DB) does it save on pc? I have a sw for analyzing M1 Auto data stored on pc...

Re: ASV and data card?
The new VPAP ST (S8 shaped) uses a different datacard to the ResLink - it is a long narrow card. (i'll post a pic of one later today).
That machine you have should offer 2 ways to extract te data ...
1) Via a USB cable that plus into where the data card fits in the back of the machine
2) the long narrow datacard - but this means buying an expensive Resmed datacard reader that plugs into the PC
The cable means you need to take the machine to the PC & connect the cable - some folk can only do it one way or the other
but the data cable is cheaper.
Good luck

Re: ASV and data card?
DSM, Yes your description fits my machine. I am given one of the long narrow data card, similar foot print chip as in the M1 card. No mechanism to view data yet.dsm wrote:The new VPAP ST (S8 shaped) uses a different datacard to the ResLink - it is a long narrow card. (i'll post a pic of one later today).

Yes, I prefer the cable link route, since I hope, with some programming efforts, I can bring data directly into my new Google Phone ( ) with a Google App I probably will provide to all!
Right now, we are in the final preps for a long journey to the paradise on the other side of globe (aka the tropical rainforest, lakes area of Kerala, India). For travel, VPAP ST looked compact without the power sypply, but it needs a 24v ext supply, a bummer.

Resmed VPAP ST Data cable
Hi dsm,
I am resurrecting this thread after almost a year! A quick search did not yield much more about this cable. Do you have any reference for a model number for this cable, or where one can buy it from, ...?
Card reader is the other possibility, easer to use. What is its model number? Will any of these multi format card readers work here? I have to almost start from scratch and get up to speed again to use this machine effectively... Thanks

Re: ASV and data card?
The card reader for the Resmed VPAP Adapt SV units uses components that are no longer generally available.
Instead, I just use a null modem cable to read from the serial port on the back of the unit. Here is an example null modem serial cable and a serial to USB adapter:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6812196271
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6812101118
Another combination is to use the adapter and a null modem adapter. The null modem adapter and the serial to USB adapter:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6812196231
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6812101118
I have no affiliation to Newegg, other than as a happy consumer, who has had excellent service from them over the years.
Hope that helps.

Re: Resmed VPAP ST Data cable
Hi John,
Thank you for the info. I was getting very optimistic reading your post: I already have serial/usb, and you have already been using it! On closer reading, my machine is different, it is a VPAP ST. It does not have any serial port in the back, and as far as I know, it is a relatively newer model. Yes, even though I did change the subject my reply, the original post was about your machine, so my bad I confused you. Perhaps I should repost this question in a new thread, to avoid the same confusion to others in the future. That said, do you have any knowledge about the data interface for VPAP ST? Perhaps move over to the other thread to continue this line of discussion?

Nope. I would recommend moving it to another post, so others with similar equipment can help. Sorry I missed that you were referring to another device.feeling_better wrote:... do you have any knowledge about the data interface for VPAP ST?
