looking for a diff CPAP - Current M Series pro Cflex

Post by gmoorhouse » Wed Jan 27, 2010 5:34 am

cuQuestion.

I am prescribed a CPAP, I use a Respironics M series plus (cflex).

I've been on this for a few years and tired still......I take ambien and provigal

My sleep doctor last year gave me the data card and sent it in. He never said a word. I am at a 12 setting using nasal pillows.
I did read about the encore pro and thought I could find out what is going on. Well of course I learned that with a plus you only can view basicly compliance.....what I wanted to see
was apneas, leaks and all that. With that being said and I guess this will be an out of pocket expense.......unless I can get a referal to my sleep doctor and have him chance my cpap. Never the less.....I do not know how much a M series pro cost but since i have the encore pro software and the smart card reader would it be wise to get a M Series Pro or just to get another line.....and prices and where to purchase? I will have to be able to adjust the pressure myself to match my other CPAP.

Also will my supplies; hoses, filters, humidifier......fit the pro if I do get one
Money is an issues so if that works I would like to just get a pro.....however, if a pro isn't worth it and I should get something else I will.

My blood pressure is uncontrolled since dx of OSA and getting a little worried.

Thanks very much.

Since you have the software and reader I would probably stick to the M series to save money.

Why not upload your script to cpapauction and purchase that way. Will be much cheaper since you are going out of pocket. You maybe able to find an M series Apap even for a reasonable cost. If you don't have a script, ask your doctor for a copy, take a picture of it and send it (that is what I did).

Medicare passed rules that require them to prove compliance. Essentially Medicare wants to try to be certain the money is well spent and not just have supplies set to patients who do not use the unit.

Though this SHOULD spur the medical profession to provide better information to patients, it does not. Essentially you need to assume responsibility for your health and any therapy to improve it.

Yes. Most of the Respironics units will work. The M Series is a pretty solid choice. I used an M Series BiPAP and was pretty pleased with it. You want to purchase an M Series Pro, which provides the following data on a SmartCard.
  • Data Storage Capacity SmartCard: 6 months a 3 usage sessions per day, 7 days in-depth analysis
  • Data Storage Content SmartCard: Date/time, hours of use, usage patterns, AHI, leak, snore, FOSQ
You may want to consider, if you can swing it, an APAP unit (Auto PAP). This may allow you to get just the right pressure at just the right time. I know they are more expensive, but see my note below about CPAPauction.

Either way, you need to be certain the M Series unit contains a data card module. If you order from CPAP.com, you might want to look at the following different units:

Another source can be an auction site, such as CPAPauctio.com:

http://cpapauction.com/
http://www.cpapauction.com/browse/cpap- ... hines.html
http://www.cpapauction.com/browse/cpap- ... cpaps.html

Of course, you need to be careful you get what you need. If the price difference is not all that much you might want to purchase from CPAP.com, who will stand behind their equipment.

Well, the first thing is to get you a system that can tell you what is happening. Once you have effective treatment the blood pressure normally drops. Of course any concurrent issues (weight, diabetes, etc) must also be controlled. But those are easier to control if you are sleeping well.
