My Apologies Over Yearbook

Post by Sleepless on LI » Sun Oct 09, 2005 8:48 pm

I received a PM tonight from someone we all know and love saying how upset they were by the fact that I increased the size of the photos I got to use in the online yearbook and they were not happy about it. I will not divulge who that person was because I feel bad enough as it is that I hurt someone, let alone that particular person, with my project.

I just want to say I'm sorry to anyone else who might be upset by my taking the liberty of making the photos larger in the hopes everyone could see them better. I just figured that when we post our Avatars, that we can only do them 6 kbs. or less and 80 x 80 pixels because those are the parameters set by this site. I never in a million years dreamed anyone would have an objection to my slightly increasing the size of the photo; and for that, I'm so sorry.

I am going to put the online yearbook to bed as you never know who you'll hurt by your efforts. It was in no way intentional and I feel just awful that I did hurt someone by doing that. I thought I was safe by only using the photos that members gave me the okay to use. But I guess sometimes you can't anticipate the reaction to everything you do, so I will make this last update my last update.

Once again, my sincere apologies to anyone I upset by the yearbook thread, especially the person who took the time to let me know what I did wrong. I'm really sorry.

Lori,

I am sorry that someone has taken offense to the enlarged pictures in the yearbook. Please do not stop updating it. I think it is a great idea. It is nice to see who you are communicating with. Maybe you could omit that persons enlarged picture or maybe just repost the pictures in their actual size. That way no one would be singled out and have their feelings hurt. I know that you would not intentionally upset anyone and I think you are a very valuable asset to the people that use this forum. Who else would take the time to create and update a yearbook of us hoseheads.

Please don't let one persons opinion spoil the yearbook for the rest of us.

Keep it coming,
Gilda

Lori,

I saw the pics & did notice that my mug got squished by being enlarged but some may argue that made me more handsome

You did a great job and I (and am *certain* a lot of others appreciated the work you put in.

I would not have added 1 photo without you starting this but having done it I enjoyed having done so & added the bub pic of self learning to walk.

Lori, please take my advice - * don't be so sensitive to negative reaction * - I am sure the person concerned would not want you to run away from a great effort - we all have our nits but in this exercise the value of what you did outweighs them.

I am more than happy to provide 10 more photos to add to the collection (I am kinda joking, may be 2 more I am just glad you prompted me into participating as said before I enjoy your energy & efforts.

As with anyone here we can choose to read threads or move on - we can choose to participate in projects of move on - we are all free agents

Lori I love ya for having done as much as you did - keep it going

Cheers

DSM

(PS how about 3 photos - 2 larger replacements for the avatars & a new one )

Lori, don't sweat the small stuff.

I liked what you did and it is great.

Now if that doesn't say it all, I don't know what does. If you have only had one complaint out of all of the others who participate in this forum. That's doing very well.

It very well could be that this "person" was only upset by how they looked with the picture enlarged. Not actually upset with you.

Or, maybe they thought that they might be recognized!!!!
They are part of the witness protection program and a mob boss will come after them and blow em' away!!!

Or, they are hiding from an insanely jealous ex-spouse who is also a CPAPer and they will hunt them down. (maybe I've seen Sleeping With The Enemy to many times )

The thing is "don't sweat the petty things..... pet the sweaty things!)

Have a great day!!!
WooHoo! Life is good.

Thank you all for the pep talk. I got some good laughs and almost some tears out of the supportive replies. Peg, you are too much!

I have to say, though, the person who did PM me was not bitching AT me, but just airing the fact that they were a bit upset by the fact that their photo was enlarged. I have nothing but respect for the person who did it and am not looking at that person in any way other than they were honest enough to share how they felt with me. Now, how that made me feel was like I may not be considering all the angles on this. And sometimes, I'll admit, I may get so wrapped up in what I'm doing that I don't see all the angles. I did explain myself, I hope, well enough to that person and even they suggested I not give up on this yearbook effort.

If I do continue this now, please, anyone who submits a photo can PM me and let me know DO NOT ENLARGE IT, even if it looks like you can't see it. I will be glad to leave them as they are. As far as what has been done already, I cannot go back and change all those photos as it would be a lifetime effort to resize them all, not to mention the "damage" has already been done as they have all been viewed numerous times in that proportion.

May I just remind everyone that this site is not a modeling agency, nor does anyone care how gorgeous you are or aren't? The purpose of the photos was only so we could see who we speak with all the time, put a face to a screen name, and that's it. Personally, I hate the photo I posted. But I don't get in a lot of photos because I never cared for how I look in them. I posted it anyway knowing this is not my best shot. Personally, I look far more gorgeous in person (ahem). My point? Don't worry if you're not Jessica Alba or George Clooney (how's that, Linda?). None of us are. So? If we had their money, we could probably look that good, too!!! But that was not the reason for the yearbook.

Okay, guys. Thanks to all of you who cared enough to write. I appreciate your support and caring very much.

Lori,

Don't despair, you can't please all of the people all of the time.
You've done a fine job on the "yearbook".

Best wishes,

Thanks, Den.

Honestly, the person wasn't displeased, but I think more shocked at finding their picture enlarged when they didn't expect to or want it to be. I can understand that now in hindsight. I just thought I was doing everyone a favor by making their photos more viewable. My bad...

That's great Lori...even though I liked to see George on here...haha.

Lori...I think you did a great job on this project and hope this doesn't stop you from continuing it. I know you can't make that one person's picture smaller again because we will all know who it is. I'm not sure what you can do about it now...I just hope you continue what you started...
