Need help with Full Face Mask

Post by paulak » Thu Jan 21, 2010 7:56 am

I could use some help. I've had a stuffy nose, so I went in yesterday and decided to try a full face mask. They gave me the Quattro and took my Swift away. I started trying to go to sleep at about 11, but I tossed and turned and adjusted for hours. I finally slept for about 3 or 4 hours. I kept feeling like everything was all wrong! I turned it off twice and got up to check cpaptalk.com. At one point, I actually felt dizzy. Is that in my head? When I would lie on my back, I could feel the air lightly puffing my cheeks, but on my side it didn't feel as strong. I thought I read on here that you need a higher pressure with a ffm. Is that true? With all the moving around, are the numbers altered and meaningless, because mine were leaks .10, AHI 41.6, AI 11.3, and HI 30.3. If anyone has some wisdom and direction, please let me know. I think I need to calm down and just try not to move. What do ya'll think?

Hi, two things occurred to me. One is that your stuffiness may be due to having your humidifier on a high setting, and if it is, try turning it way down for a couple of nights. The other thing is that the dizziness could possibly occur if the CO2 air vents were covered accidentally by bedding, etc. when you're asleep... you don't want to rebreathe that stuff.

Well the humidifier is a personal thing. I see people recommending low setting and others high setting.

I have a big problem with sinus congestion, I moved to Denver from Houston and I have my setting to one before the highest.

I think the original poster should try different settings.

I also tried a Full face mask and I was told and proved that these masks don't work well with high pressure. I am at 15 and the Mirage Full face didn't work, the flexifit hc431 didn't work. My DME said that the Mirage is in the works to change the seal to softgel similar as the nasal mirage softgel because they know it does not work with highger pressures.

My DME gave the nasal mirage softgel and the weight is enough to maintain a perfect seal during the night and I moved from side to side and also sleep on my back.

I was like the Original poster, the full face mask made me not having a restfully nights.
