Nasal mask is on but machine not picking up

Post by Catatrina » Mon Jan 18, 2010 12:08 pm

This is a recent event where I am wearing my comfort-fusion nasal mask all night but my IntelliPap APAP Machine is saying breathing hours only 1.5. I am trying to figure out
is this a mask problem? or my CPAP machine? I note the mask on Resperonics comfort-fusion doesn't have the best port for air flow but it has been working since I started
using IntelliPap Auto Adjust CPAP in October 09. I have the capacity to check my Smart codes daily and that was my reading above [didn't show any leaks either] The night before
I had 6.9 hours of breathing w/CPAP pressures were the same 5.0 -5.5 - since I sleep on my side now my pressures pretty much stay under 6.0. I will be getting a different
mask the new EasyFit Nasal mask by Devillibis this week so I am hoping my using an interface that is made by same company it might work better. I don't know? Like I said this has just been going the past 4 days. I did e-mail the company to see if they had any thoughts on why this is happening, especially since I am wearing the Mask all night long. I really like
this machine compared to Res Med Remstar A-Flex, it is much more quieter and very easy to use. Of note I have used also the Swift LT for her nasal pillow mask and have had no problem with it but when I get sinus problems I prefer using the nasal mask. Any thoughts out there would be most appreciated.

I don't have your type of machine, but it sounds to me like there may be a problem with the data collection functionality of the machine. I'd try to exchange it if I were you.

I am not sure how to respond to what someone else has commented about a topic so I will respond from here, then you all can tell me how to do this later. i did my own experiment
last night. I found out by using another interface mask "Forma Fisher & Paykal FF Mask" the following were the readings I uncovered from looking up my Smart Code:

My breathing time was - 8.4 hours; High Leak 31% AHI 4.0 90% pressure 6.0 95% pressure was 7.5

Now using my usual masks such as Swift Lt for her Nasal Pillow mask or comfort fusion nasal mask by Resperonics [before i started having issues with this mask] my readings were as follows: breathing hours average around 6.9; NEVER ANY HIGH LEAKS AT ALL; AHI average around 2.0 or less 95% pressure is usually 5.5% and 90% pressure is 5.0.These readings are usual for me since I have been using DeVilbiss IntelliPap Auto Adjust CPAP machine.

So my conclusion after last noc experiment is that it definitely has to do with the mask and I know I usually never use FF Mask any longer because they are note for high leaks and the nasal mask Comfort fusion obviously is not fitting as well as it use to i notice the seal has not been as good as when I first started using it. I will be getting a new nasal mask within next 2 days so that should help. I am definitely doing better with nasal pillow mask or nasal mask then FF Mask. Out of curiosity has anyone else noted differences between the mask they use similar to the above data?
