New and looking for the silver lining

Post by hybridvigor » Sat Jan 16, 2010 10:07 pm

I just found out last week that I have OSA. The sleep study was not plesant as I do not sleep well away from home and without the wife to snuggle up to. I have ordered a machine mask and such, after much research here. I have been looking for the good things about being tethered to a machine for the rest of my life.
Here is my top ten list:
10. I like to go camping with my Jeepster and this way I can buy a new deepcycle battery to run the cpap and call it a medical device.
9. I can use the cpap to blow up my air matress.
8. I can use the cpap hose to siphen gas out of my buddies Jeep.
7. I won't be able to hear my wife snore over the sound of the cpap machine.
6. With the new mask I can pretend that I am a fighter pilot.
5. I got my deductable out of the way before Jan 15th.
4. Gives me a reason to shave every day.
3. My sleepwalking trips will be limited to the length of the hose.
2. My mother-in-law can have one more of my defects to hastle me about.
and the number 1 reason is that I will start to feel better and be healthier.

All kidding aside, I can't wait to get my machine and start using it. I am sick of feeling sick and I believe that this is just what I need.
Thanks to everyone on the forum for posting your experiences with cpap.

Sorry to disappoint you about that -- with the majority new machines being as quiet as they are nowadays, you'll have to go out of your way to find one that will solve that problem.... maybe another one for you wife?

Welcome to the forum, and good luck

Welcome and thanks for that Top 10 list. I had a mental image of #3 of you abruptly reaching the end of your "tether". LOL You may be one who needs to either anchor the hose down near the machine or anchor the machine to avoid another wait period for a replacement machine.

Be thinking of another line for #7 as your wife just may not want you to have ALL the fun, and make it a matching set. His and Hers cpaps. We've got a few of those on here.

Are you gonna claim that battery on your health flex spending account? That would raise some eyebrows. Wonder who on here has successfully done that?

Again, welcome.

Kathy

Uh, forgot to add that she needs to get checked, they've now decided that snoring in a woman -- esp if she gets up several times to pee at night -- is indicative of OSA, worth asking about.

In fact, if you are anywhere in the Midwest, you can probably hear my wife snore.

Don't take the list too seriously. It was just joking. I would never use the hose to siphen gas. Also my wife does not snore (much), and I love my mother-in-law.
Thanks for the encouragement.
