Re: CPAP machine turns itself off?
The RT looked at my machine yesterday, said essentially that "if you say it's damaged, that's good enough; we'll replace it" and told me to call the sleep clinic to request an Rx. She also noted that the amount of air the machine was blowing at a "7" setting was noticeably less than a properly working machine's "7".
The whole process went remarkably smoothly and quickly. I called the sleep clinic, they sent the Rx to the home healthcare provider, the home healthcare provider cleared it with my insurance, and I had a new, precalibrated machine and humidifier sent to my office not an hour and a half ago. It's on my desk now! I was totally stressing about this...but things seems to have worked out. I consider myself very lucky; I've read other posts on cpaptalk about people who didn't have such an easy journey when their machine broke.
I think a lot of the ideas people proposed in this thread are good, too...particularly the surge protector. I'm hoping that the new machine will work flawlessly...wish me luck!
Thanks,
Ross

When I first got my machine (it's a remed) I poked around trying to find more user adjustable options, and I found the Clinical, Efficacy and Usage Menus. If your machine has auto off it will likely be somewhere in the clinical menu. Try holding different buttons down for five seconds (or so), do this in combinations until you find what you need. My machine gives me nightly efficacy info which is very helpful and I'd have never found this from the manual, it is the manufacturer only makes this info accessible to clinicians.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Hello. My husband wears "ResMed Airsense 10." He just got it 2 weeks ago and he said it shuts off. I thought he was just saying that so he didnt have to wear it. But, I just experienced it. It shut off after 15 mins. It's on 6 lbs of pressure until he falls asleep. Then, it's supposed to rev up to around 17 lbs. Any advice? I can't sleep when he's snoring and gagging. Plus, he isn't sleeping well either. Please help!
Re: CPAP machine turns itself off?
Sounds like it is broken. Maybe take it back for a replacement if you can. Always keep a backup machine, too.

There should be an internal setting called "SmartStart". You need to check to see if it's set to On or Off.worriedsleeplesswife wrote:Hello. My husband wears "ResMed Airsense 10." It could be that if he's having massive leaking, the machine may be shutting itself off. If he's using a nasal mask, there's a possibility the air may be leaking out of his mouth. In any case, if it's a large enough leak, it can have the same effect if that setting is On.
And, the pressure isn't measured in "pounds", it's measured in "centimeters of water pressure"........much less.
SmartStart™
Enable / disable the SmartStart feature.
If you enable the SmartStart feature, the device will start automatically when the patient breathes into the mask and then stop automatically when the patient removes the mask.
Off / On
If you don't have the clinical manual, here's a link to download it.

It's covered on page 17.
If his machine collects data.......Elite or Autoset.......he needs to be monitoring his therapy with software. Many of the folks on the forum use "Sleepyhead". It's free and was developed by one or more of the forum members.
