Strange noise coming from mask or tube maybe?

Post by Jaylee » Fri Dec 11, 2009 7:12 am

This morning before I took my mask off I heard a strange knocking like sound. Kind of like the sound you hear when you suck air out of an empty water bottle and it kind of collapses on itself? Anyway, I heard that noise when I breathed in. I checked everything and it looks normal, I am not leaking. I moved the hose up on to the bed with me and it stopped. I heard it a couple more times.

Any suggestions on what this could be?

Did you check if there was any water in the tube? The sound you describe is what I heard when water started accumulating in the tube--the sound came from the water moving around. I have been using a lower humidifier setting and haven't had this happen since.

Good Morning,

It definitely sounds like an accumulation of water in the hose from rainout. I would suggest a lower setting for your humidifier and or a hose cover depending on how cool the temperature is in the room at night. During the winter, cooler times of the year I lower the setting on the humidifier and use a hose cover and do not experience rainout.

When you check for water, if you have any, find a way to elevate the hose. You can find a way to do this with material at home and don't need to purchase a hose holder or lifter or any other name they use. Those things all do the same thing and some of the best ones are home made.

Thanks, I turned the humidifier down and that seemed to do the trick.

That thing in his avatar is an anti cpap, it is what we will all turn into if we don't use our cpap machines.

I have my hose hooked up over my head to the top of the headborad on our bed. I usueuall unhook the hose at both ends (from the machince and take the mask off of it) let it hang loose during the day so if there is any mostiure in it, it drains out, or dries out.

That is a good idea. I don't really have a headboard- well I do but it is an antique bed so the pillows are taller than the headboard LOL- but I can hang it over the stairs maybe and drain it that way

If you use any type of hose management such as a hose holder or lifter, just disconnect both ends of the hose and let it hang from your hose management system. If you remove the hose and put it in a hallway or another room it may became misplaced or damaged. Or worst yet when you do travel you will forget that hose and it will be hanging over the stairs and you will be 500 miles from it.

I say keep the stuff in the same room.

The stairs are in my room, I live in the attic.

If I take the hose off of the machine, how can I prevent dust from getting in to the machine? I don't have a cover for the hole. Maybe I could put a piece of foil over it or something
