Update re software for PR System 1 machines

Post by Hawthorne » Thu Dec 10, 2009 3:18 pm

A couple of weeks ago I emailed Philips Respironics about patient software for the new Respironics machines.

This afternoon (Dec, 10) I received this email in reply.

"Hello
Yes we are planning to have a software for patients to download our machines. However, this software will likely be out in the spring of 2010. We apologize for the delay but we are working on making this available to you.
Regards,"

I know there are posts on this already on the forum but I wanted to raise it on it's own so it wouldn't get lost in long posts about this machine.

Of course spring 2010 could be a target and not an actual date, I expect.

Just an "update" on our "wait and see"!

I was encouraged to at least hear back from them!

Thanks for the update!

This goes along with what we already heard. But that's good news they are actually quoting a time frame. In the past (via email) they wouldn't even acknowledge that they were working on it.

The way to fix them for being stupid enough to put out machines without software is to not buy their machines. Unfortunately, it seems many here are too impulsive to wait. Just think of how quick they would put out the software if they couldn't sell any machines. You Mr. and Mrs. PR System 1 incomplete system buyers are part of the problem.

I for one am waiting. I have an M series and need two machine so I can leave one at the firehouse and not drag it back and forth. So I am waiting to spend my money and put it in their hands, but they are dragging their feet.
Seems everything is this way now days. That's ok, I will keep my money in my pocket until they put the software out.

Yes, they at least said they are "working on" making the software available to patients. I wouldn't hold my breathe on the time frame however. I see others have said they were told, by Philips Respironics that it would be available in "early" 2010.

I see someone had posted suggesting that people shouldn't be buying these machines since there is no software ---yet. Some people, for a variety of reasons, have to take the machines they are given. Not all have the luxury of buying their own machines out of pocket and may not be given much choice by DMEs and their insurance situaiton.

Still others are new to cpap and, since the M Series is no longer being made, they are provided the PR System 1 machines and don't know about software or other machines.

From all accounts, people using this machine say that they are getting excellent therapy. This is the important thing.

I have an M Series now and the software but have been on cpap for 7+ years. When I started,I knew nothing and depended on the machine provider. Only since getting involved in this forum a couple of years ago, did I find out about such things as software and autos, etc.

Does any on the board have a DR or a sleep center who can read out the
sd cards on the new PR1 ? I was wondering how tight they are keeping the information.

Thanks Allen

Yea, Yea, Yea - what did you think they were gonna say?

It's like getting a promise?

lmao Maybe tomorrow?

Then - who is old enuff to remember the Edsel?

I never get the new stuff until they fix the bugs in the products problems.

You eager beavers check it out....lol.

Then who is gonna know how to work it - yea - ha.

I think the fact they haven't released anything yet sends a clear message.

Is it a Bird, Is it a Plane, No it's a whisp of Vaporware. As GumbyCT says, if you were in the business what would you say, you aren't going to support the needs of the people that have to use your products, not likely, unless you don't want to sell any product. I will hold my money and if I need to buy another XPAP, it WILL be one that I can get the software and reader for, NOW. From whatever company that is willing to fill my needs. Jim

Well, we will all just have to wait and see.

I'm simply passing on the information I received.

Thanks Hawthorne for passing on this information!
This is what I know (which is very little)
I was up for a new machine - and the sleep center ordered a M series apap. Never heard from them - so I finally called back -
Went in Wed and they had the new PR System. The RT was late for my appt because she had never seen this model and was reading the manual.
She is very competent and set it up and sent me on my way. Said she does not have the software to read it yet!
I'll let you know when I go back in for them to "read" my data since I have to go once again "prove" that I am compliant with my machine!

So far after 2 nights I love it - Very quiet!

Well, if you ask me, I would think that the release of the patient software won't come until the the entire line of upgraded machines is out (we seem to be up to BiPAPAuto already) so there won't be 4 (or more) versions of Viewer 2.0 floating around.

Surely, once the software is in the hands of the sleep clinics, there are enough RT's and Sleep Doc's on here that " trial copies " will soon be available.

Very good point Muffy! This would account for the wait --maybe.

It seems that people really like this machine so I do hope there is patient software soon.

I can't believe that a sleep center or DME would give someone a machine and not have the software or the capability to read the data off the machine. Maybe the new machines were just shipped to them without them being notified and now they are scrambling to get the software.

I had an Insightful Comment, but Muffy is afraid of pirates, software or otherwise.
