Travel woes w/hose suspension stand
Travel woes w/hose suspension stand
Hi all,
Just back from my first airplane trip in which I carried with me, in a big carry-on bag, this CPAP stand.
On the way out, TSA didn't say a word.
On the way back, they came within a whisker of confiscating it and were only very grudgingly assuaged when I insisted that it was a medical device.
Has anyone got experience traveling with a hose suspension stand like this? What do you advise?
Thanks!

Re: Travel woes w/hose suspension stand
Eric, I have the http://www.cpap-supply.com/PhotoDetails ... ode=HL1250 and have traveled twice with it. No problem on all 4 flights. However, they did seem to need to swab & xray my APAP half the time, and hand inspect it every time.
Re: Travel woes w/hose suspension stand
I use the one in the second post and have traveled with it a lot. I use it every third day when I am at the firehouse. I have used it for over a year now and it still like brand new.

Eric,
Maybe you could print off the description, including the picture, and just keep it in your bag. That way you could show the agents exactly what it's for. Probably they couldn't really understand what it was for.

On one travel occasion a TSA rep asked me to inspect the second item referenced in this thread. She knew what sleep apnea was and allowed me to keep it after I explained its use, but the point is there is no guarantee any particular product won't get questioned; the potential for confiscation is always there.

I use
https://www.cpap.com/productSearch.php?q=1&query=Hozer
this product, and it's great. Folds down nicely, and it can go in my carry-on. Of course, I haven't yet tried to get it past the TSA.

I built one out of 1/2" PVC pipe. It disassembles to fit in the front pocket of my M-Series bag. They've NEVER questioned it. (Possibly cause it doesn't show up on xray?)
If you have a metal one, the solution may be to put it in your checked bag. You won't be using it in-flight anyway...

Re: Travel woes w/hose suspension stand
I too use one I made from 1/2" pvc pipe. I think you are right on track about it not showing up on an x-ray but I also think that printing a picture of it being used and keeping it in the bag while travelling is a good idea as well. Maybe having the bag tagged as Durable Medical Equipment with all accessories inside would help too.LinkC wrote:I built one out of 1/2" PVC pipe. Re: Travel woes w/hose suspension stand
I have a CozyHose Boss in my CPAP bag....and traveled twice with it. But, I haven't used it yet.
I do have the first hose stand somewhere...though it probably won't travel...its what I used to use at home before I got the HoZeR, which I don't think I want to take apart for travel. I also have the stand in the second post....never used it yet, considering putting that in my checked bag when I go on my next trip....
