Proudly in possession of a ResMed S8 AutoSet II
Christmas came early for me...the Big Brown sleigh delivered my ResMed S8 AutoSet II (FINALLY have my autopap) last night -and it was snowing when it arrived - really. Awaiting the 3.7 software which is due in any day now...from offshore.
Can say most sincerely, I owe so much to you guys for your knowledge & support and general camaraderie over the years. Like cpap, will need you always - and appreciate you!!
Anyway, just wanted to share my news.
Best to all,

CONGRATULATIONS, Patzee!!!! Good choice of APAPs! I had its forerunner, the S8 AutoSet Vantage, before being switched to a bi-level, the Resmed VPAP Auto.

Isn't that the truth! My Santa-hubby is the Greatest. It also means his shopping for my next 7 Christmas presents are already accounted for.rested gal wrote:What a nice "early Christmas present", Patty.
For sure. Am setting it up right now!I'll bet you'll be well treated and well rested for the holidays!
And, Laura, let me add you've been my cpap-mother earth over the years. Just the other day one of the threads about this machine's settings in which you offered timely suggestions, is one I am paying great attention to in my initial set-up. Thanks so much for, well, being you, and being here for all of us!
Thanx! You are a most respected sweethart whose posts I always look to as well. You always say it straight forwardness which is much appreciated.Slinky wrote:CONGRATULATIONS, Patzee!!!! tattooyu , my DME "issued" me a Respironics RemStar Plus and have been using it since starting cpap therapy in May '05. It has been a trooper and still hummin' along and I'll keep it for back-up. Thanks for saying you love yourAutoSet II; I'm gonna do the same.tattooyu wrote:Not sure what you were using before, but I LOVE my Autoset II!

"Hummin' along" isn't enough in this day and age. The easily adoptable technologies of today allow patient-users to utilize every bit of it to help themselves with their therapy. We can see what is happening in real-time, and take measures to either talk with our doctor (for those who want to do that) about the detected problems or, make modifications ourselves. And you here on the forum have shown me all of this.
I've waited too long to get my auto; would encourage any who are serious about them, but on the fence, to get off the fence before there aren't any available - and I fear that is what is going to happen eventually.

Re: Proudly in possession of a ResMed S8 AutoSet II
Autosets are nice machines. Got a neighbor in my subdivision who loves his, and wouldn't trade it for anything. If I weren't so passionate about the Intellipap, the Autoset would be my choice.
Re: Proudly in possession of a ResMed S8 AutoSet II
I also have the S8 AutoSet II, and just love it. Congratulations on getting the cpap you want!
I'm wondering why you say that?I've waited too long to get my auto; would encourage any who are serious about them, but on the fence, to get off the fence before there aren't any available - and I fear that is what is going to happen eventually. Patzee

Re: Proudly in possession of a ResMed S8 AutoSet II
I'll admit my AutoSet has been the only 'pap I've owned so far, but I do love what it does for my sleep and how easy it is to use. Saw my brother's new Respironics CPAP last weel when I was visiting him, and I am glad that I have my ResMed as it looks nicer in my mind, and easier to get at the on-screen data (important for me right now until I finally get a card reader).

Thanks for your post KatieW.! And for your question 'cauz I sure didn't say what I meant to say and hopefully can correct it.
It is not my fear that autos will eventually be unavailable to cpap users. Just the opposite as the trend seems full-forward for autos so the transfer of data can be sent from the patient's bedroom to the healthcare provider for their analysis and remote action.
That is marvelous, except with each step in that direction I firmly believe that information we find valuable and manipulatable (is that a word?) will diminish to a a few near useless bits via hardware engineering changes and software re-writes.
It just feels as though we are being herded in a direction opposite to which many would prefer to be going. My recourse was to have chosen from what is available now that does allow me active participation in my therapy.
There are no doubt good and valid rebuttals to my fears and I'd truly like to be enlightened. But for now, hopefully that explains my original intent KatieW. (and thanks again!)
