Windows 7 and Encore Viewer

Post by Hawthorne » Tue Nov 24, 2009 1:04 pm

I know that there are several threads about Windows 7 and Encore Viewer software but I am not that computer literate and need some specific info!

I am about to upgrade from Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit to Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit.

I have run the Windows Upgrade to check compatibility with all my programs. It suggested that I might have to get the latest drivers for my card reader (which I believe I have -I got the latest drivers a little while ago) but the upgrade advisor said nothing about Encore Viewer as such that I could see.

Can anyone assure me that it will all work okay with this upgrade or is there something else I may need to do.

There should be no problem running Viewer after the upgrade. Windows 7 runs all windows applications for XP and Vista.

Hello, I don't mean to be the beared or bad new, but windows 7 does not run all windows vista and xp programs. If you have Windows 7 Home you are out of luck if the program will not run on it. However if you have windows 7 professional or ultimate you can down, install and run a windows xp virtual machine.

Windows 7 alone will not run the current versions of Encore viewer or Encore Pro. You can run Encore viewer in a windows xp virtual desktop on windows 7 professional and ultimate but I do not know about envore viewer. I would think if pro runs that viewer would run but I haven't tested it yet.

When they release the new softare I highly doubt it will run on anything but professional or ultimate. That would be one way to keep it out of the hands of the end users us, whom they don't want using it in the first place.

I would suggest if you really want to run this software down the road to seriously look at upgrading your computer to professional or ultimate. Yes, it is more expensive, especially when you consider your not really getting a whole lot more for what your shelling out. However I love the few added things that are in ultimate. I set ultimate up to backup all my data files nightly to my network storage and weekly it does a complete backup of all my hard drives to the network storage. With windows 7 home you need to either have an extra hard drive installed in the computer or sit with it while it backs up to feed it writeable dvd's

I have a brand new laptop with windows home premium on it that I can not run Encore viewer or pro on. I will have to upgrade to either Windows 7 professional or Ultimate.

Best of luck.

Gerry

Last evening I opened Encore Viewer with my upgraded Windows 7 operating system. It opened and I askd for yesterday report. it came up fine but with 10 pages (it's usually 6 pages per day.

This morning, before I inserted my card, I tried what aka fuzzy96 suggested and then tried to open Encore Viewer. I thought his suggestion might solve the paging problem.

It would not open. I went to the "Program Combatibilities" section and told it to "fix it".

Now I get an error message and it does not open!

Anyone?

Is anyone using Encore Viewer with a Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade on their computer?

I did the compatability test and was told to set it to Windows XP Service Pack 2. Just get an error message.

I would like to know if anyone has had success with running Encore Viewer on a computer with Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade. If anyone has been successful, how did you do it???

I don't know what I did but yesterday Encore Viewer began to run just fine with my Windows 7 upgrade.

Don't ask what I did because I don't know. I tried a few things that didn't work and then I tried to open Encore Viewer again and it worked. It has been working since.
