Puffy Eyes and Bi-PAP

Post by TwiLight56 » Mon Nov 23, 2009 11:43 am

Hello. Anyone else have this problem. Have never had puffy eyes, and now since using bi-PAP - my upper lids are just about covering my eyes. I have a respironics bi-PAP with heated humidifier - 18/16 and face mask (Quattro Mirage). Sometimes, it does leak towards my left eye, but quits when I get it adjusted right. I have now had it a total of 10 days - so still adjusting (which is pretty hard), although I am managing to sleep (don't know how)!

your problem is fairly common and said to be from air leaking from top of mask, also it seems some sleep with eyes partly open, nurses see this in hospital wards

I had thought that only psychiatrists doing psychotherapy slept with their eyes open

but seriously, another possible cause is air blown the wrong way thru tear ducts, there are supposed to be one way flaps which apparently some people dont have, do you notice anything when blowing your nose
australian, anxiety and insomnia, a CPAP user since 1995, self diagnosed after years of fatigue, 2 cheap CPAPs and respironics comfortgell nose only mask. not one of my many doctors ever asked me if I snored

Yes, I feel like I am having severe allergies and am taking Claritin daily - scratchy throat. The mask leaks constantly - according the the digital readout which I just figured out the "leak percentage" is 54%. I am going to call the equipment provider today and talk to them about it. The mask is a Mirage Quattro, small - and think it is too big even though I am not really small - but my facial features are - and think the way my face is, just does not fit right. Last night, I woke up numerous times to adjust it. Just can't seem to get it right. Have to put on REAL tight just to try and get it not to leak. Loose is no good - makes all kinds of weird noises. Thanks

Twilight, I was just looking at a new product that just came out that sure looks like it would solve your problem and the same thing for many other people. It is a strip in the shape of a modified T that goes over the bridge of your nose and under your eyes comfortably and prevents the mask from digging in and helps to seel the mask. I saw this in one other place and their are people on this board that ordered it from the other place but not sure on what they paid.
It is called sleep comfort care pad by Sequal Technologies.
Best of luck
Gerry

Thanks Gerry - going to call Apria health care and see if I can order it. The leaking mask is driving me nuts. I am sure going to try to get this comfort care pad. Thanks!
