Privacy problems of forum

Thank you for all your hard work and sensitivity keeping the site going and mediating between cpap.com and this diverse group of forum members.
The fact that we all seem so happy with the site says everything.
I would not be managing as well as I am without your efforts and the contributions from the these great guys.

R&R,
I think that because we were able to stongly express our opinions, even though it could be tenuous at times, we were able to gain a respect for each other's point of view that we would not have been able to do otherwise. As a result I think you and I will not ever find ourselves in such a disagreement with each other again.
Sincerely,

As far as the "draconian posting limitations" of some of the other forums, I have all but given up after a very few attempts at posting replies for sadvice on the ASAA forum. It's very hard to help people solve specific problems when virtually the only equipment advice you can give is to "ask your DME"
Sincerely,

I agree with you Wader. Airing it out and and then being big enough to offer the olive branch or to take it speaks loud and clear about the charactor of people. We both did so and it made us stronger and built a strong bridge between us.
I also would not participate in a forum where we had to deferr to DME's. That's the last place I would defer anyone to, even my enemies.

I have only been a member for a few days (a lurker for a few weeks), but it is easy to see what a caring group of people makes up this board. CPAP is a BIG life change - it works - but it also sets you apart from all of the other sleepers. The looks at the airport security are enough to drive one batty. The support I have received from all of you is greatly appreciated; it makes the adjustment to CPAP much, much easier.
Kuddos for the administrators for doing a great job.

Glad to see you back.
How about an update on your Rita adventures.
I think your neghborhood dodged the Rita bullet.

Well, I had many, many branches on the ground, my trees are pruned. I has several screens blown out on my back porch. I had three seals blow out on my back windows and the water bubbled up the paint on my seals requiring me to sand and paint them.
We have had a bunch of roving brownouts and the surges burned out my dishwasher, an icemaker in my freezer and one air conditioning unit on my house. So, we were spared but I do have a lot of pain in the butt issues to fix.
The drive to Shawnee OK usually takes 7 hours normal. The drive up took 15 hours and the drive back took 18. My dog was good but my cat was a pain, whined the whole way. I was ready to strangle her. But she is old and blind and cranky and instead I fed her.

I'll post another bunch of kudos for both the store and this forum!!!
I've bought several products from the store and have never received anything but polite, courteous, helpful service. Never pressure toward a particular item or product line. Just HELP in getting my questions answered and the right product to satisfy my needs.
The forum has surprised me more than once for the openness and tolerance of posts that I thought were definitely out of line. After all this is being hosted by a business. There is nothing that says they have to allow people to push other commercial enterprises. (And for those of you that do that, poo on you!)
Finally, the community here is just fantastic. Sure, there can be disagreements, misunderstandings, etc. It's tough not to when communicating with only the written word. But of the posts I've read it seems like everybody is just trying to get to the best "truth" they can for this stupid malady we all put up with. I have certainly received good stuff. Both from responses to my questions and just reading other threads.
THANK YOU!

Re: Privacy problems of forum
Yep, that "other place" definitely is different than here Another board I visit was a "spinoff" of another much more controlled board. ANYthing other than the subject being discussed was TOTALLY prohibited. Nothing mentioned about any other websites, etc. There was total control over anything you said. The spinoff board has functioned just fine all these years (4 so far)without "big brother" watching them, and without censorship except for a couple times at first of an incident of someone privately e-mailing and hastling someone. Other than that, it's been ok...The way I see this is that we're all adults and don't need "babysitting" by a board moderator (not saying you can't have a moderator, but I think adults do ok in the internet world for the most part without help:Dtomjax wrote:Another forum I participate in has much more draconian posting
limitations and my psots are frequently removed.
There is absolutely no way for posters to contact each other and any mention of other sites or any commercial site is not permitted.
No auction posts or pressure change posts are permitted.
My question to those here is if any privacy invasion has happened here and what happened..
Has anyone had problems of any kind by making themselves subject to contact by others?
Has anyone been harmed by unrestricted postings that are not moderated?
Does the moderator have any conserrn for liability problems if a person is harmed from incorrect or harmful postings?
I will send this to other forums.
None of the yahoogroups or TAS or any other forum ever mention problems.
Just wondering.

That mouthful was neversleeps's - and I can only say "what she said".neversleeps wrote:This is so true!! Those are easy to moderate. What is harder are the posts written in a civil tongue that are still clearly aimed at doing harm.
Something we (and that includes ME!) should ALL keep in mind.johnnygoodman wrote:.... cpaptalk.com is not your personal bullhorn.
As you should be! The lack of heavy-handed censorship is just one of the things that makes cpaptalk the best! The fact that we are allowed to publicly disagree is a true testament to your profound belief in the freedom you espouse.johnnygoodman wrote:This board was founded to be free and it [is] free. It has been hard to do and I'm damn proud of it.
I'd like to add that any disagreement, even something as simple as disagreeing with the determent of slotted-nared individuals from ordering nasal pillow interfaces, is never intended as a personal affront, or to hurt or slander you. It is simply a suggestion for the suggestion box. I fervently hope it is taken as exactly that; a suggestion.
You are to be congratulated for making cpaptalk an absolutely fantastic resource for us. I have always marvelled at your dedication and knowledge regarding all things cpap, especially since you, personally, do not have OSA. (At least, I think I read that somewhere along the way; correct me if I'm wrong!) Yet, you definitely know more about it than I probably ever will!! I appreciate the fact that you continue to educate us by providing this site, and continue to share your knowledge with us as we go along. I can honestly tell you, if it weren't for cpaptalk, I would have quit therapy long ago. I think it is fair to say you are saving lives here, and I, for one, am sincerely grateful to you.
