Question for the ResMed SmartCard Hackers

I had seen that link to the one for $32. I hadn't seen the drivers page, however. So then, I should apparently not use the drivers installed by the ResMed software.

It is NOT the ACS branded model which is known to work... that is a ACR38U-SPC-R.

It might work if you use the 1.1.6.4 driver from the ACS web site, but no one has definitely established that it does work.

I have tried an ACR38U-SPC-R (ACS brand) and a ACR38U-NPC (Resmed brand) with the 1.1.6.4 drivers (for the ACR-38U-CCID) and can tell you that neither type of reader works with that driver.

Yeah - that's the best option, of course. However, once I realized I could get one directly from the manufacturer for around $20, I kinda got a little miffed, and began wondering if there is any aspect of this whole game that isn't rife with shady dealing.

Unfortunately, the ACR38U-SPC-R doesn't seem to be available anywhere. Where do people get it?

Don't forget too that if you don't buy the ResMed branded one, you will have to make a guide so the card goes in right spot. The ResMed reader has a plastic guide that fits in front of the slot and positions the card perfectly for reading... It's certainly not impossible to make the guide, but a number of people here have complained about having to make it just right to get the card to work in the off-brand readers.

I've read through all the threads on the topic (I think) and come up empty. I get that the ACR38U is the one needed. The trouble is that there appear to be several subtypes of ACR38U, and there appears to be no consensus about which one is right. The only person who has said with any degree of certainty "THIS IS THE ONE" (ACR38U-SPC-R - see above,) has not taken it a step further to say where one finds this elusive thing. I've searched quite a bit, and apart from the usual B2B places like Alibaba, where I suppose I could have 10.000 of them imported from China, there appears to be nowhere to get this specific unit.

I suspect there is no sticky because there is as yet no definitive, authoritative answer. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong, I beg you...

Not picking on you. I went thru the same thing.

Buy the ACR38U reader from here: http://www.smartcardsupply.com/Content/ ... /ACR38.htm. This is a U version. Call 800-331-3921 or write sales@IQBIO.net to make sure they send the U version. The latest drivers (1.1.6.1) are probably on your system if you keep it updated.

Disable your wireless LAN before using. Make a guide with a left width of 17 mm and a right width of 13 mm out of an old credit card using a portion as a cross piece to make a U looking guide.

They need to stick this at the TOP.

They are not hard to find with a few minutes work on Google, as mentioned numerous times previously in this forum over the years and as demonstrated above by vkmaynard.

If you want things simple, buy a Resmed ACR38U-NPC.

If you want things cheap, you need to put some effort in yourself
