Oxygen saturation

Post by EnglishEric » Wed Nov 18, 2009 7:28 am

Hi Everyone, I wrote earlier about my operation 2 days ago and how my Apnea impacted on my theatre treatment. Well it also made a lot of difference to my overnight stay as well, of course I slept with my CPAP on but also had an oxygen peg on all night hooked up to a multi procedure blood pressure machine. The machine alarm went off every few minutes all night but the medical staff ignored it although it was disturbing a lot of people. When the night shift went off at 6am I mentioned this annoying alarm only to be told that it was my blood oxygen reading falling below 90% which activated it, this was news to me but started me experimenting and found that the CPAP machine is at least partly responsible for the fall in oxygen, it was easy to put right with a few deep breaths once I became aware. This is probably general know ledge to most Apnea patients and news to me, however, these monitors with a finger peg are a great tool and I would like to know if they can be purchased anywhere either with a prescription or over the counter? Can anybody help, please? because I am certain that I have other side effects due to the low oxygen levels and it would be fantastic to be rid of those too. English Eric

EnglishEric: I'm sorry to hear that fellow Patients and yourself didn't sleep well because of the Oximeter Alarm. However, I'm glad to hear the Shift Workers on your floor were able to continue sleeping themselves.

Yes, you can buy an Oximeter without a prescription. My oximeter is a CMS-60D. Just searching the site will give you plenty of reviews. My Oximeter cost $210 and was purchased by Echostore.com.

I'm very pleased with mine, monitors continuously, overnight, alarms, downloads data and generates a report. AA batteries hold up quite well under much use.

I wish you continued success on your recovery from the hospital

Take care,

SG
