Hose Cover

Post by cookerhouk » Sun Nov 15, 2009 10:13 pm

I have seen a lot of information on using a hose cover if you have a heated humidifier to avoid rainout. I have had some problems with it but have the level set low (around 1 or just below). I prefer a cooler bedroom for sleeping and am getting ready to head to Massachusetts for Thanksgiving week (a lot colder there). My question is, if you put a hose cover on, how do you clean your hose. I was told to wash in warm soapy water each day, rinse and hang in shower. I would think it would be a pain to take the cover on and off every day.

Most of us do not wash the hose often; some never wash their hose. I use a hose cover and now I wash about every 8 weeks. I have 2 hoses, so I just switch the cover to the clean one and wash the other when it's convenient. Note to self: make another hose cover.

A couple times a week I take a clorox wipe then a baby wipe and run it through my hose. I tie a little slip knot fishing weight to the wipes attached to about six and a half feet of fishing line and drop the wieght down the hose I then pull the wipe through, I do this a couple times you also need to wrap the wipe around a regular paper towel, to give it some friction along the inside of the hose wall. It seems to be working as there is no mold growing in my hose or any musky smell comming from my hose cover.

Hi cookerhouk,

When I bought my hose snuggy, I also bought this hose connector: https://www.cpap.com/productpage/univer ... ector.html I can put warm soapy water inside the hose and link it to itself end to end in a big circle. Swish-swish. Empty, rinse, soak in 1:10 vinegar and water for 10 minutes (changes the pH, lessens chance of growies and hard water deposits) with ends connected again. Then rinse with distilled water. To dry it reasonably well, I swing it like a bull roarer in a circle and hang to dry. The outside never gets wet.

Have a great trip.
