Got Elite II....DME still combative

Post by JaBee » Thu Nov 05, 2009 10:21 am

Hi all...

My saga continues...

I just wen to the DME and he reluctantly agreed to give me the Elite II and let me return the Escape.

He continued to say he did not understand how you can see the reuslts on screen without the software or card,
so I pulled out the pages from the manual. He started complaining about how people get this stuff off the
Internet, so when he handed me the manual, I opened it up and showed him it was the same maunual
he was giving me with the machine. (he kind of glared at that one...)

He said I still would not get the info because the machine was set for Standard menu. He said that the
"Detailed" menu was only for the clinician to use. He said he could not set the machine for the "Detailed menu"
or he could be arrested.

He still literally complained about his profit being less because the Elite costs more.

So, I guess I need to see if anyone call tell me how to change from the Standard menu to the Detailed menu.
Of course, the other option is to call the Dr. (gee, do you think I might actually get to see him or talk to him???)
and see if I can get them to tell him to do it.

Thanks to all for your help in this...

BTW...if you can not tell from the profile pic...I love to sing Frank Sinatra music at Karaoke when i cruise....
and I love to get to sing in the guest show each cruise witht the orchestra...
and....I am determined "to do it...MY...WAY..."

Press and hold the right and down arrow keys till the display says "Clinical Menu Welcome." You can make any changes you like then.

Grrrr, DMEs!

That tells you exactly WHY they try to give out the cheapest, non-data-capable machines to new users. They don't give a damn about their therapy......only the profit. It's ALL ABOUT MONEY!

And, then some DMEs and RTs show up on this forum and wonder why we exhibit such hostility towards them........???

Glad to hear you got the better machine.

For starters, as long as you're planning to make any changes, a better way to access you results is to hold both right and left button simultaneously for 3 seconds. That will get you into a review menu, which, according to ResMed "This is useful if you cannot see the patient’s device and you want them to provide details of their current settings and efficacy data remotely". That is a read only menu.

Den said it right!!! This tells you exactly where your DME is coming from. The ledger sheet.
I've told my DME ( and you should too ) that I really don't care about their profits, I only care about my treatment. They make their money believe me, between the monthly billing, the buyout at the end, and the $40 hoses, $25 filters etc. they rip off the insurance companies every which way they can......
AND, I'm sure that the difference between the billing and the contracted payout is tax deductible as "un-recovered"......They really don't like people like us because we hold them to the grindstone!!!
Glad to hear you got your machine -- stay on top of them and don't let them push you around (let 'em whine)!!!!!
take care
cheers

CBman, I've been trying to figure out if you had a song in mind when you wrote those great lyrics. See, I'm retired and I have nothing better to do!

Well, at least we have an "honest" DME among us! He's telling it like it is!

My wife used to complain
that I had a loud snore
at night she couldn't sleep
cause she was scared to the core

she said I stopped breathing
and it was more then she could bare
and she worried I would start again
or if it was my last breath of air

So, i went to the hospital
and they hooked me up with wires
to see if they could help me
or if my health was dire

It was not the Holiday Inn express
but, wow what a great shower
to wash off all that gel
and get clean and feel power

Next I got a CPAP machine
which helps me to sleep
and I feel more rested
and more energy has me ready to leap!

So, no more sleeping at work
no leaning the chair to lay
life is getting better
and I'm ready for the day

JB

Be aware, now that you've been told how to get in to the Clincians Menu that your first time thru you have a pen and paper handy and write down what appears on EACH screen - just in case you accidentally - or intentionally - change any of your therapy settings you will know what they originally were.

ROTFL!!!! If he honestly thinks that....

From pages 32-33 in the Provider Manual for the S8 Elite II:
Smart Data in the Patient Menu
A Smart Data feature has been incorporated in the S8 Elite II device to increase
patient involvement in their therapy. Display of Smart Data for the patient to
review is at your discretion. Select some or all options for display in the patient
Data Management Using the Menus 33
menu from the Smart Data submenu in Clinical Menu, Options (see Figure 6,
Options menu screens, on page 21). The following data can be made available,
showing, for the most recent session:
• the star rating of the 70th centile mask fit
• 95th centile pressure
• total duration of session (usage).
Set the Mask Fit, Pressure or Usage options to ON to enable the patient to see
any or all of this data.
If the Auto Appear option is set to OFF, the data will be displayed in the Results
submenu of the patient menu only. If you (or the patient) set Auto Appear to ON,
the data for the previous session will be displayed after the patient restarts the
device.
Data for the current session are available for display up until noon, when a new
session commences.
Note: If none of the Smart Data options (Mask Fit, Pressure or Usage) has been
set to ON in the clinical menu, the Results submenu is not displayed in the
patient menu.

The part I've emphasized in bold blue is important. The person setting up the machine via the clinical menu has to have set at least one of those "Smart Data" options "ON." (And the DME wouldn't be arrested for doing that! )

I'd set all three to "on."

After Smart Data has been set for "on", you'll be able to see other things too. The juicy stuff you want to see. You'll be able to see the "Results" - "Efficacy" data, if you look for it before noon.

To get to the Results data the next morning, hold down the RIGHT and LEFT arrow buttons together. Then use the left arrow button to "Enter" until you get into the Efficacy submenu. Use the up/down arrow button to toggle through the AHI data and leak data. If you see the pressure reported as less than the pressure your machine is set for, not to worry. Less pressure reported than the pressure that's been set is probably because of EPR being turned on. EPR drops the pressure an exact number of cms each time you exhale. That drop will be calculated into the Pressure number in your Results.

I wouldn't bother. I'd just turn it on myself, by turning on Smart Data in the clinical menu.

JB, if you do decide to go into the clinical menu, I'd suggest just walking through it with pencil and paper in hand. Write down every setting, every word, every number that you see in the LCD window as you go through the clinical menu. I wouldn't change anything the first time through. Write it all down so you'll have a record of the original setup in case you make future changes but decide you want to go back to the way it was.

Here's a link about how to go through the clinical menu, and what the words "Change" and "Apply" mean in the menu:
viewtopic.php?p=226375#226375

In a nutshell, it's ok to press the arrow button under the word CHANGE, and it's ok to use the up/down arrow button to see what changes could be made. Just prowling through the "Change" stuff doesn't actually "change" it. As long as you don't press the button under the word APPLY, no change will actually get made. Pressing the button under the word "Exit" goes backwards in the menu.

If you panic and want to get completely out of the clinical setup menu just don't touch any button for about two minutes. Or press the righthand button under the word "Exit" three or four times. Hitting "Exit" that many times will definitely back you alllllllll the way out of the menu.
