Can anyone tell me which machine was recently posted as being noisy, or noisier, when used WITHOUT the humidifier please?
I can't find the posting now OR the piece of paper I noted the name on. Just not firing on all cylinders yet! thank you.
noisy w/out humidifier ??
At least three of us - WillSucceed, UnknownWhat in Seattle, and myself have noticed it in the GoodKnight 420E made (or sold) by Puritan Bennet.

I suspect that any machine transmits more noise with the hose hooked up directly to its outlet than through a humidifier chamber. It is very noticable with both my PB420e and my Remstar/Pro. I can't use either without the humidifier in-line.
I doubt if the "external" noise (that made by the machine into the ambient surroundings) is any different between humidifier/no humidifier.
C'mon you engineers: one little in-line noise-baffling chamber that doesn't reduce air flow. It'd be great for travel! I was hoping the Respironics in-line HEPA filter would do this, but it doesn't change the noise.

Actually I wouldn't think it would be too difficult to make something reasonably effective. There are a lot of similarities between a muffler for a car or other machinery and a silencer for a gun. A similar principal could likely be applied to good effect.UKnowWhatInSeattle wrote:C'mon you engineers: one little in-line noise-baffling chamber that doesn't reduce air flow. The problem I see is that such a thing could not be cleaned. At best, the sound deadening filling (fiber fill perhaps) could be disposed of and replaced and the body of the "silencer" washed.
Without frequent maintenance I'd be worried about nasty things growing in there and being inhaled by the user!
