How do I keep it on?!

Post by DLMdoc » Mon Oct 12, 2009 3:28 pm

I've been using my cpap for about 2 months. I think I've made it through 4 entire nights without taking off my mask.

Some nights I do it intentionally because I just can't stand it anymore, other nights I wake up and it's sitting next to me on the bed.

Any suggestions on how to stop talking it off?!

The mask is very comfortable to me and fits well.

Thanks!

Get some Micropore tape and apply to your face and the mask. That way, the sensation of taking it off will be more abrupt and you can stop the behavior.

Some forum members have found that taping their mask to their face works wonders. They use a good adhesive tape that "hurts" when it is pulled from the skin. Pain is a strong motivator NOT to take off ones mask at night. Don't use such a strong tape that it pulls off any skin!!!

I was lucky and never had the problem of unknowingly taking off my mask at night.

First of all many of our learned panel will tell you to enter more information ; settings would be a lot of help, also if you change your images to words you will recieve more help. I was one of the lucky people I took to CPAP like a baby to his mothers milk, sorry I can't help you much in that area I just didn't want you to think no one was listening. This is a great place to get information. All the help you need . How bad was your sleep apnea before CPAP .I was turning all night long gaspping for air and sweat one minute freeze the next .Up to the bathroom every hour or even more frequent. This has all blissfully become history. GOOD LUCK AND PERSEVERE

Superglue worked for me.

Haven't had it off in over a year now. Looking forward to Halloween...

Use socks on your hands so you can't take it off.

I never had to resort to tape or socks though I would have...I just made sure I was firm in my mind that I was going to succeed with this and that I could not remove the mask. I don't really know how to describe it except that I tried to "will" myself to be aware of what I was doing and not allow myself to take it off. Worked for me.

Good luck!

Happened a lot for me too during the early months. Did try clipping it to my hair and putting bandaids across the straps on my cheeks when I used the Swift. At some point it must have started feeling familiar as I quit taking it off in my sleep.

I would do that at first, too. I just made up my mind that this was something I was going to do and stuck with it. It also helps to put it on in the evenings while you're watching tv etc. to get used to the feel of it on your face. Once it stops feeling like an alien is attached to your face it gets much easier. After a while (or several months) you really do become oblivious to it, and the feeling of having air shot up through your nose. I am no longer using the mask I started with and that helped. (actually I think I'm on about mask #5- but I found one that works for me.) Hang in there, it really does get easier.

I found I messed with my mask only when it leaked and made cheek farts. After trying a lot of things I now have a working solution for me that you might give a try. I wash both my face and mask cushion with diluted dish washing detergent (very oily skin) then my secret is to put apple juice on both the cushion and where it meats my face and immediately put on the mask. No I'm not nuts, if you spilled any on your counter and let it dry you know it get sticky. I put it on a paper towel and use enough to wet (not just a smear but not runny) both seal and face. I sleep on both sides turning several times a night without problem and in the morning I pop the mask off.

It's going to be okay in the end; if it's not okay, it's not the end.

i suggest you release it and get a c.b.b. snake. you shouldn't take animals from the wild. especially when you have no idea what your doing.

in fact you should just research as much as posible and then look into owning a snake. its not like caring for a dog or cat. there is a lot more going on with reptiles.

never mind taking animals from the wild reduces there natural numbers and could contribute to a species demise.

think before you act.Discount hotels

Kerwin-- Loosen your headgear, your mask is WAY too tight!

On another note... Since humans are an integral part of the ecosystem, isn't taking a few critters out of the wild and domesticating them just part of natural selection? When was the last time you saw "wild" cattle? They thrive in captivity. Their numbers have significantly increased, not reduced. Just something for you to think about tomorrow at 3:18am...

Kerwin is just a sneaky spammer coming by in the wee hours of the morning when he doesn't think anyone will spot the lame attempts to insert some sort of jibberish along with his link. I reported his other post that I saw as spam.
