Judy, gmail email accounts have been somewhat sought after. They are hosted by google, thus the gzart wrote:gmail...? girl mail...? good mail...? great mail...? gentleman mail...? What is gmail and why do i want it...?
The online email interface is pretty good, but at the same time there are some privacy issues. I use my txlonerider account for a couple high volume email lists. Otherwise I would not be able to effectively read my email away from my laptop.
Try it out, you might like it.

Gmail
I have had gmail from its beginning and have not figured it out.
I cannot create folders and file things away as in other programs.
I also have Yahoo e-mail and am very comfortable with it.
In an age of people changing isp so often, many are forever lost when they change. This is the beauty of a permanent address. You keep it.
Another very beautiful feature of web based e-mail is that all your data are on the server- NOT YOUR COMPUTER, if you have a crash, you will not lose your data.
For this reason, I now send all my important stuff to myself at either gmail or yahoo and it is safe.
I highly recommend getting a web based e-mail for these reasons.
Another feature of google is their photo program, picasa2.
it is awesome. get it.

Re: Gmail
That's why I recently bought the domain "thesunflowers.org" (we're the Flowers family who moved to the Florida sun). BTW, I'm "bill" at the above domain if anyone ever needs to email me directly.tomjax wrote:In an age of people changing isp so often, many are forever lost when they change. Isn't that what backups are for?Another very beautiful feature of web based e-mail is that all your data are on the server- NOT YOUR COMPUTER, if you have a crash, you will not lose your data.

For the most part I trust google.com, hotmail and yahoo to be around for a while, beyhond that you have potential privacy issuesWAFlowers wrote:Isn't that what backups are for?Another very beautiful feature of web based e-mail is that all your data are on the server- NOT YOUR COMPUTER, if you have a crash, you will not lose your data.

I use my gmail.com account as gmail has a much better web interface than the provider for thenerdranch.com, which is my primary account. And of course this is where Bill and I diverge, for me FireFox is the best mail reader, where I think Bill stills Outcreek Truth be told, I actually prefer Pine, but it is not as easy to interface with applications for attachments.
