"I switched to the Swift LT" ...because?

Post by Spuddlethud » Sat Oct 10, 2009 1:38 pm

Everywhere I go on this forum there are people that just swear by the Swift LT. What I want to know is why you switched to the Swift LT. I see a little here and there, but nothing organized. The comments on the product have an anecdote here and there but rarely, if ever, specifics about what they were switching from and why.

So how about we give this a shot:

"I switched to the Swift LT from my former favorite ___________ because _________."

Obviously elaboration is welcome.

"I switched to the Swift LT from my former favorite quattro mirage because my mouth was as dry as dessert sand even when using a chinstrap. My mouth had a mind of its own to open even with a strap , it would kinda move back like a yawn and take air in. The Swift LT lets me hear the tv while falling asleep better. The leak issue went away for me so far with the Swift Lt.The Swift Lt doesnt need to touch your face much. The LT reminds me of Lawrence Taylor." Of course I am a rookie who's only other mask was the quattro they gave me for free while leaving the sleep study along with a free breakfast so maybe others will steer you down a better path.

It's very comfortable and doesn't leave marks on my face as long as I use the soft wraps. It also has very few parts, so it's easy to clean.

I switched away from the LT a while ago because of the inferior quality of newer pillows. I switched back (from my FlexiFit 406 nasal mask) because despite the PadACheeks forehead pad*, the forehead piece was drilling holes in my forehead.

* The PadACheek forehead pad worked great till I had to raise my pressure. I have a narrow/shallow nose bridge, and the design of the forehead piece on this mask is quite uncomfortable when I have to tighten the mask to accommodate the idiosyncrasies of my nose bridge at higher pressures!

I switched because the Optilife (I came home with from the titration study) headgear was PITA and I just never got it right on my head. Did this 10 days into therapy. I still can't get the Optilife adjusted but the Swift LT was easy to adjust right from the onset.

I haven't switched yet, using the swift II but i am thinking about trying it cause it should be easier on my head where the straps hit. the rubbing gives me red bumps.. Yes i now have padacheeek and i must say it is better, but still there..

I switched just a few days into therapy from the Mirage Quattro because:
a) I couldn't get the Quattro to stop leaking (still haven't had luck with a FFM in that regard)
b) The Quattro was rubbing my nosebridge raw
c) The Swift is so comfortable and has so little contact with my face

I switched just shy of a week into therapy because my comfort gel nasal mask would not stop leaking into my eyes and I bruised the bridge of my nose big time trying to stop my eyes from drying out. The RT didn't want to switch to another mask that would touch my nose until it healed, and I agreed. The comfort level of the Swift LT for Her was night and day. I have no problem imagining sleeping with my current setup for the rest of my life even if I never feel any better than I do right now. However, I have leak issues to work on (seen in another thread).

This is great stuff folks, keep it coming.

While we're at it, has anyone used the Swift LT and gone BACK to what they were already using? If so, why?

(OK, I just realized I may be coming off like a vendor rep or something. I'm not. I've just been looking for a replacement for the Breeze. I want to better understand why people are so enthusiastic about the Swift LT and if those reasons apply to me. I'm currently debating between the Activa LT and the Swift LT. The Swift seems the better option, but I just want more data.)

"I switched to the Swift LT from my former favorite somnoplus because I was stupid."

I am not using the LT anymore. I am not using the somnoplus either but now using the Quattro.

I switched FROM the Swift LT for her to the Activa. I am much happier with the Activa because it stays put better on my face, and when I toss & turn it doesn't get dislodged as easily. Also, it does better with the humidifier - Swift LT would get water which would trickle into my nose, and if Activa gets too much condensation, it goes on my cheek - much better. Although Activa is larger on my face, it doesn't seem quite so invasive because the positioning does not need to be so precise. Just my experience! I am fairly new and these are the only 2 masks I have used.

I switched from the Activa to the Swift because the Activa was changing the way my teeth came together.

I really like the Swift because it seems like the "least" mask. (Properly adjusted, it's the closest I've found to no mask at all.) It's also one of the quietest masks I've tried.

I also have a RespCare Hybrid when I can't breathe through my nose. It seems to have the second least effect on my teeth of masks I've tried.

I switch back and forth with the Swift Lt and my original Flexifit petite 406 mask.
The nasal Pillow is great, very comfortable. However when using the pillows, I awake with significant congestion that last for days after.
I have read many threads on congestion and tried all suggestions with humidifier adjustment, the rinsing etc etc nothing seemed to work.

I think the air pressure going up my nose is the cause of my sinus problems.
2 days with the Swift LT is all I can take for now. I'm hoping that my nasal will adjust to the air pressure so I can use the Swift Lt that is more comfortable to wear.
These are the only two masks that I have used in my short time with therapy.

I switched from the older Swift (not LT) because the barrel pushed against my nose underneath and hurt, it came unseated easily with my tossing and turning, but mostly because of the straps along the side of my face. I sleep on my side with my hand against my face. Wasn't willing to have that interfered with, and my hand made the mask shift.

Used Breeze succesfully for quite a while but didn't like the brace at the back of the head. Used ComfortLite II with PadACheek successfully till I messed with it so much I messed up the metal strips. Have used a deconstucted Headrest (aka Aura or Twilight) for at least 2 years now. Been curious about others, but not enough to pay to take the risk.

I switched to the Swift II, because it works well for me, and I don't have anything covering my face--nice to have the feeling of no irritation around my nose, and no hoses in my face. Used to use an Ultra Mirage, but the Swift II is far more comfortable, and works well with my therapy. Pressures are actually .5 cmh20 LOWER with the Swift, and only 1-2 Apneas a night. Max pressure went down from 9.5 average to 8.5. Sleeping 8 rested hours an average night. Swift II is a better design for me than the LT, as the hose doesn't cross my face, but can run along my head on either side of the mask to the machine.

i switched to the swift lt for her from a nasal mask....because:

1) the nasal mask hurt the bridge of my nose
2) the swift lt mask is less stuff on my face
3) my leak rate with the swift lt is 0...yep, zero!

love the swift lt for her! if it ain't broke.......
