Wood Burning Stove & BPAP

Post by mickeyblueyes » Sat Oct 03, 2009 1:11 pm

Hey folks do you think using a BPAP machine in a cabin that has a wood burning stove would be detrimental? There is always some smoke in the air from loading it up. There is always a lot of dust in the air. Thx

It'll smell like smoke for awhile... so answer you're own question... do you want it to smell like smoke?

Mickey,
I takes patience but before the wood is burned all the way down, open up the draft and get the smoke really roaring up the chimney and then open it up to put in more wood.. Also try to do this an hour or two before bed so all the smoke has dissipated before you turn on your machine. There are many wood burning stoves that don't smoke up the room when you fill them.

FoxNewsFan is right. I burn wood and have not had any problems. I don't live in a cabin though.

There are other chemical residues that wood burning stoves (unless you know yours is newer) give off that are definitely harmful to people with and without respiratory trouble, and many people are getting rid of theirs now or replacing with safer new ones, so I suggest you get yours vetted by someone who knows what to look for.

I'm a wood burner, too.

You may want to explore more than using cpap in your cabin.

Do you have a good external air source?
The smaller the space, the more you need an external air source.

Do you need to clean your stack??
When my stove starts backing smoke into the house when I open the door,
the stack needs to be cleaned.

Hmm, never had that issue (smoke in the air) after loading up my wood burning stove at the cottage.

You might want to verify the installation and the pipes/chimney.

How airtight is the cabin? if you have it sealed up might want to leave a window open slightly near the stove.

Dust in the air is actual particulate matter from burning wood smoke, and that definitely is not a good thing.

you might need a taller chimney to give a better draft, the main risk is carbon monoxide poisoning from not enough ventilation and poor chimney draft

Yes, but the particles can be very damaging as well (it gets a lot colder where we are and stoves are used 24/7 for months at a time).
