How can I stop the deterioration of my FF mask seal?

Post by newanvil » Thu Oct 01, 2009 12:58 pm

Hello, all. This is my first post! I'm sure this topic has been addressed, but a search of the archives doesn't exactly answer my question, so here goes.

I have been a CPAP user for about 6 months. I use a Mirage Quattro FF mask. It works well for the most part, but the seal around the mask becomes almost useless after 2 weeks, and starts leaking like crazy. I follow a strict regime of shaving and washing my face, and have tried cleaning my seal insert every mornign with citrus wipes, without citrus wipes, with mild detergent, without mild detergent, etc.

As my sleep doctor and insurance combo don;t seem like they may want to authorize a new seal every two weeks, I'm stuck. Does anyone have any thoughts on how I can get the seal inserts in my Quattro mask to retain their "stickiness" and seal for more than a couple of weeks?

Thanks. Any info or suggestions are appreciated.

Don't wash them so often.......???
I dunno. I don't know what you're doing to it or what makes you think it has to retain the "stickiness".
I've been using the very same Ultra Mirage Full Face mask (including seals) since I started therapy over 4 years ago. I only had to replace the headgear about a month short of the 4-yr. anniversary. It keeps sealing better with age.

I only wash mine every few months (with Dawn dishwashing liquid).

Well, you could buy them for yourself from cpap.com or cpapauction.com and have a steady supply.

Alternatively, you may want to consider a barrier such as RemZzzs:

http://www.remzzzs.com

That would eliminate the seal making contact with your face as well the need to wash it as often. Perhaps you could order the sample pack and see if it works for you.
